Just received a text from my Tennessee buddy saying Danny O'Brien, a RS Junior starting defensive tackle, was been suspended by Butch Jones. Looks like they will be short handed on defense again this weekend, but it sounds like they will have their senior WR, Pig something or other, back Saturday. I have found a confirmation on the Internet, but having trouble linking it. Just google Danny O'Brien suspended for OU game. There are several stories about it. I don't know too much about O'Brien except that he was thought to be ready for a big season.

You could play this for some grins and giggles Bama.

Text your buddy and tell him you let him out of the bet for half...right now!

I did that once, to that moose Dennis I spoke of.
He didn't have the courage of his convictions and took me up on it...then, and this is the best part, he would have WON the bet as it turned out!
Ha and ha!

He isn't a game changer but very steady. In fact it was just a matter of time before he was passed by some younger players. He's a loss but not someone your coaches would be worried about if he was playing. Finally getting our safety back to 100% (Todd Kelly Jr) is much bigger for Tn. I know it looked like we got torched by BG but we pretty much played straight man because our backup safety doesn't know all the calls yet and we played very vanilla. We also should have another DB ready to go that's probably the most athletic player on the team in Justin Martin. Good luck.

Sounds like you are right on regarding O'Brien from what I have heard, but losing a starter for a game like Saturday can't be good. If Kelly is back at 100% that will be major for UT, but if he was one of the two that had his knee scoped about 10 days ago, he may not be 100%. I think I read where Jones said the other DB won't be ready until next week, but could be wrong. Waiting patiently for game time. Enjoy! It should be a good one.

We have been betting on OU and Tennessee for years. Normally, which team covers the spread for $20 a game of something like that. Couldn't possibly make such an offer. Too much pride and admiration for each other. Funny thing is, he doesn't have any issue with me being an OU fan. It's the Bama in me that he can't tolerate, so I have a plan. ha,ha,ha

TKjr had some complications after having his tonsils removed a couple weeks ago. That's why he didn't play much last week. After we got blistered by BG the first half, TK entered the game and everything changed.

Well, if it is raining all during the game, that will make a bigger difference for OU than UT, IMO.

The word is that Butch Jones is really strict and doesn't put up with any shenanigans from his players. The visiting Volunteers can confirm or clarify. Just what I hear from one Vol.

Well that's good to hear...he seems like a pretty level coach. Just wonder how these "traits" are not seen during the recruiting process. Four and five star struck I guess....Sooners have not had much luck with 5 stars either come to think of it.

Here is Butch Jones mid week press conference. He addresses the injuries and suspension. Nice guy always has a smile on his face. Hard to not like.

What I have heard about Jones appears to be true. I also think he is doing more with 3 star guys that past UT coaches. Won't surprise me to see UT improving over time with Jones. If so, schools will begin to come after him but everyone I know in Tennessee claim that the Volunteers will match or better any deal he is offered. I think the alums, fans and administration have grown tired of losing to the SEC elite.

don't really know him very well, but just from the interview and what he is doing from a discipline role is very impressive.

Oh come on, we OU fans don't want any good coaches to go to Texas...we're spoiled to their mediocrity.

I'm not advocating a Texas campaign to hire Butch Jones whatsoever, but it's becoming quite apparent that one of the richest college football programs is edging closer and closer to freefall, if not already in the process. One of the biggest and most influential Horn donors wasn't at all pleased with the Charlie Strong hire and publicly slammed the decision. There is no reason to think that he is happy with what is going on in Austin and is surely making noise about ridding UT of Strong. If Charlie has another poor season, I think next year will be his last unless his season is remarkable. What's the chances of that? I would actually say that this season will be Strong's last if he wasn't so early into his contact. It may happen regardless. If so, look for Texas to be very aggressive and go after proven winners.
