Been here since Crabby … First Thread. Too Long! Sorry in advance!
Never thought I’d be excited about joining the SEC … but it’s the right place at the right time for the right reasons.
Keep your friends close, your enemies closer … and never forget the difference:
This partnership with the horns is toxically symbiotic today, but they would sell us out in a heartbeat. The simple fact is they killed the SWC, the original B12, and now the crippled B12. I thought Boren sold out OUr best interests ten years ago in a vain attempt to seal his academic legacy with a move to B1G or PAC12 (which Texas blew up). The arrogance and greed of the LHN still pisses me off. Glad it failed! But it was Texas and ESPN conspiring to lift their brands that destroyed the B12. As we are witnessing now, tv $ and media markets drive everything … and we better remember that. Fortunately the SEC will not be bullied by UT. UT needs the SEC, and once in, Texas will be just one big stick who no one else trusts.
SEC gives Texas Faster Path to Recovery: if you have unlimited resources, AND you can marshal them effectively, you can rebuild faster than ever. Transfer portal, NIL deep pockets, and recruiting to SEC gives Texas an unprecedented opportunity to upgrade. They will get better after a decade of stupidity and incompetence. But … can they improve enough. We’ll see. I don’t think this coaching staff is top notch for the SEC. but even when they suck the RRR is a fistfight.
A&M epitomizes unwarranted arrogance, but don’t underestimate them: I can’t stand their arrogant fans, but the truth is they spent the last decade getting better. They made the right decision to flip Texas the bird and ditch the B12 amidst the LHN bullshit. They did what they had to do. Like it or not, OU and Texas are tethered together with some mutual interest, but our success speaks for itself and we walk in nobody’s shadow. Not true for A&M. They had to hitch their britches up and divorce Texas. They did. They upgraded facilities, coaching and conferences. They are better and will be tougher than our boards believe. They are acting like babies because big brother came home and pulled the rug out from under their spotlight moment. If they had any real balls, they would say welcome home and hit UT right between the Eyes. Truth is recapturing their rivalry with Texas will give them a spotlight game they never had in the SEC (the contrived rivalry with Ark is a joke and they know it). Real hate with Texas and mutual disrespect with Oklahoma will actually burnish their brand.
Oklahoma: lucky to have Joe C and Linc. Joe C made lemonade from Boren’s athletic naïveté. He, Bob and Linc continued to build our brand over the last decade. Especially Linc. There is no option to stay in a boring, crippled conference with low tv pay outs. So we go compete with the best and toughest and get real regional rivalries. We are better on the field, coaching (thank the lord Linc ended the fums re-run), recruiting and as a national brand. Being the premier QB destination in the country will allow us to always compete at the highest level. But it will be a lot tougher to be elite. All these programs will bring out the best in each other competitively and the worst in all of us. But it’s going to be awesome for fans of excellence!
OSU: have many OSU friends and colleagues. Hate this for them. Even though they hate us and never want anything positive for OU, regardless of their whole “state unity” drivel. But the crippled B12 and Boren bought them a decade to fix problems in their athletic dept. Like A&M, they used that time wisely, invested in facilities and improved their brand. The rest is up to them. A decade ago they are an afterthought in consolidation.
Things are going to get crazy fellas. If the top 8 in the Sec played the top 8 in the rest of college football, the SEC wins easy. Can’t wait!!
