Venebales for Head Coach

Venables had Tom Wort playing first string when he was here. He has done a nice job where he is at but I'll pass on the Venables for head coach.

Bob should have never let Venables go. He should have let his brother go.
Word I heard was that the two could not function well together and that Mike was moved to the press box to keep his tantrums at arms length. Venables may flourish now that he's out from under Mike's shadow....evidently, he has.

The concensus on BV while at OU was great recruiter, great LB coach, marginal coordinator. Personally, I'd take him over Mike but they each have their strengths and weaknesses. As a person.....no comparison. Brentwood is a great guy. Mike, not so much.

NO WAY, I AM STICKY TO BOB LIKE GLUE, WHEN HE DOES LEAVE, ALL OF YOU GUYS WILL CRY LIKE A BUNCH OF BITCHES.

OU vs USC
OU vs WVU
OU vs Florida

Go watch the coaching product your boy put on the field in those games.

OU vs WVU defense was missing a lot of starting pieces. Granger, Holmes and the glue to the entire back 7 in Reggie Smith. OU team didnt show up that day.
OU vs Florida was a good defensive performance. They held Florida to lowest points all season. Florida had 5 NFL WR/TE catching passes in that game. With Lofton going pro early and injuries mounting OU was down to Mike Balogun starting against Florida at Middle Linebacker.

Wort still started the year after BV left. Even when Frank Shannon looked like the better option Mike was starting Wort.

That, and no Demarco.
I know I'm a repetitive parrot about it but, with Murray we win that sucker. 10 points? Demarco Murray could've easily produced that for the U.

Yes Florida was a good game but not giving any passes for the WVU or the USC losses. We were favored in the WVU game. And let's not forget the BSU game while we are at it.

Yes he did and then was told he was not good enough to start and he quit. The fact he was starting shows what out lb'er development/recruiting was like under Venables.

Looking back, maybe BrentV got caught up in the overall stagnation the OU program was going through at the time. BrentV wasn't the only person sucking it up on the recruiting trail at that time. All positions at that time were dragging ass in recruiting. It's something OU is still trying to recover from. Maybe that was just the culture on the staff at the time at OU.
Lots of info out there that Dabo puts a significant emphasis on recruiting on his staff 24/7/365. So it's very possible that BrentV simply upped his recruiting focus once he landed at Clemson. It's certainly something because Clemson's defense last night was pretty damn nasty.

Yep, BSU used Sooner Magic on the Sooners, and that just ain't right...

There were plenty of Sooners ready to be done with Venables before Mike's return.

I'm happy for Brent's success but he was struggling in Norman before he relocated to Clemson.
I am not a close follower of OU obviously, but my understanding was that OUs defensive struggles the last couple of years Brent was there was not coaching, but a lack of talent. In fact, after he left, didn't your defense actually get worse the next year or two?

All i know is, given the talent being stockpiled on Clemsons defense, Venables looks like a superstar.
Jusr days ago, got a commitment from the #2 player in the nation, an absolute monster of a DT. Justt piling talent on top of talent
