Tx Phdle Quail Season

I bet she is more excited than you are. :) I hope you have a pickup truck because she'll find something stinky to roll around in. Good luck.

Kind of off topic, but we found some feeders and stands from people coming on our country club property to poach some of our deer. We've already talked to our game warden and they have the sheriff's office periodically patrolling in some ATV's but that will only do so much. What's a good way to deter deer from that area where they had the feeders, stand and cameras set up? I'm not a hunter at all, I can't kill things so I have absolutely no clue. Is there something that just smells so foul to deer that they won't go in an area?

We've already taken the stands and feeders, but our deer are already somewhat domesticated by the fact they're not skiddish of humans from being around golfers for so long. I'm mostly hoping to keep them out of the area. Half of them will let you walk up within 50 yards or so before they even start paying attention.

Any idea where they are coming in from? Is it people who live close-by, or are they parking in a certain area and sneaking in? Could always frequently check areas for vehicles if they are parking and walking in. But if you keep removing/confiscating their stands and feeders it would eventually be pretty costly for them to keep losing those things just to hunt.

Opens this morning. Excited to be working with a 1 1/2 year old female Brittany. Her first time.

Boomer Sooner!!'
I used to guide here at a ranch in Texas. I owned a couple Brittany's and had great success with them. Good noses and soft mouth retrievers. I also owned some English Setters which I was equally impressed with. Had a couple English pointers too.

Really not sure of their point of entry. There are a lot of ways into those woods from different roads and neighborhoods unfortunately. I remember from that Disney movie "The Rookie", they used human hair to keep deer away. Since I don't have a barber shop at my disposal, trying to figure out a different alternative. I also know that in Ruidoso, they have a spray they put on trees to keep bears off the greens.

Well, things like that may keep deer away for a limited amount of time. Deer eventually become accustomed to most anything you try to put into an area to keep them away. My parents live in the sticks, and they have a little herd of deer they put feed out for and have food plots literally within 50yds of their front door. Anything new my parents get around the house, it will have the deer spooked for maybe a day or two, then the deer realize it's not a threat and they become at ease again.
I think your best bet would be to catch them coming into the area. Or keep removing their stands, cameras and feeders. That crap costs money, so eventually they will get tired of losing those things. I'm not sure if you are in a rural or urban situation. If you are urban, then I suppose they are most likely bow hunting??

It's The Woodlands, Tx... so very urban in surroundings. Some people have seen guys with bows in the area and let the game wardens know also. They definitely wouldn't get away with gun shots in the area.
