On the heels of Jalen Hurts' arrival at OU, this is quite a scenario in the RRR.
And it also raises the question, once again, why Texas has trouble recruiting top notch quarterbacks over these many years.
In fairness to Ehlinger, it's been since the days of Colt McCoy that the Horns have had a franchise QB. The elite high school QB's in the state of Texas seem to regard Austin as a leper colony and gravitate to the other Texas schools, or OU, or Alabama, and elsewhere.
In addition, given Ehlinger's physical style of play and without known quality depth behind him, Texas is treading on thin ice. Maybe some will see OU in a similar situation, but I believe Riley has two promising QB's in Mordecai and Rattler that trumps the depth at Texas.....and these two players will benefit from Hurts' leadership and guidance and Riley's ability to coach them up.

I thought Thompson was also in the transfer portal. Wouldn’t it be great if he also left. That would leave under achievers university (UT) with Elinger and the freshman that just signed

He loses Lil Jordan (his main man) and Beck with a sub par running game. Sam is more or less screwed.

Not a lot of depth at QB with these two leaving, so I don't expect to see Sam running as much as he did last year. He's a great weapon to have on those 3rd/4th and short situations, but they can't take too many chances on letting him run too much and risk an injury.

I'm thinking Collin Johnson and Devin Duvernay will be back next fall, so Sam will have two very capable WRs to throw to. Not sure about the young guys behind them. Same with Beck at TE. He will be tough to replace. Sophs and Freshmen at the TE depth chart, so lots of young, untested talent. RBs are serviceable, but Ingraham was the only RB who impressed me last season. He had a good game against OU in the RRS and against UGA in the Sugar.

I like Ehliinger's fire and toughness. What would worry me if I were a Texas fan is that he's possibly one concussion away from his career being over. Those things have an additive effect, and he's already had at least a couple and maybe a few. If that happens, and I 100% hope it doesn't, Texas would be in a world of hurt under center.

I also like his fire and toughness. I am not sold on his passing ability. Lil Jordan Humphries is gone so ther goes 1/2 of your jump ball through. Not sure he is good enough to throw into tight windows. We will see

Nice post.

Sam will most definitely put those legs to use. Hate to see Shane and Cam leave, but Casey is better suited for the Texas offense. I thought Shane was getting second team snaps, because of his dedication to the team.
