Tre Brown opting out of Cotton Bowl

Very surprised on this one. Great Sooner, good kid, but maybe a 5th rounder at best.
The future is here & now for the younguns.

Exactly, I've seen him projected as a 7th rounder so not sure why he wouldn't want to have a good showing in the bowl game

I guess he's going to prep for the Senior game and the combine. Best of luck to him.

I don't think he'll go higher than the 5th, but I also don't believe the bowl game would make a difference. He has a tremendous amount of film already, plus he had two nice KO returns & an INT in a Championship game. That was golden. What else is needed? The Senior Bowl will give him the oportunity for GMs & scouts to see him up close. Being healthy for that is more important for his career than the bowl game.

Kids transferring when they don't get enough playing time, opting out of bowl games, opting out of half the season.....I don't like the way this is going. The chances of having a career ending injury in a bowl games is still pretty slim. To me is says a lot about your character and commitment to your teammates and school if you finish out the season

Hey I tend to agree w/ you. I think the playoffs have unmasked the importance of a bowl game these days. They do need to stop the bleeding. Maybe add more playoff games. I don't know. FWIW, I think he probably did fulfill the goals of the team except for the Natty title. Tre's future is not with the Sooners. His time is expired. I say let the younger kids get the playing time now. The future is theirs. Who's got next?

Ha, p5 conferences are only concerned about character when they as an "institution" are about to get blasted. NCAA, by the way, is very lax these days, preferring more than ever for schools to report their infractions early rather than it being leaked by an investigative source and thereby forcing a full blown investigation. NCAA is just gonna sit back. The p5 conferences know this, and along with the all-knowing committee? Character and commitment? Shit, schools hide it and the NFL will only worry about it when it hurts their brand. Imo.

I don't see it as a character flaw at all. OU is a Blue Blood football factory. Not every kid, but I'd say 70% of the recruits every year have desires to be coached up and advance to the next level. It's part of the deal as a top HS recruit & OU sells this to them. I'm thinking the guys on the team are excited for Brown, not disappointed in him. An example of a character flaw to me is smoking the weed, getting busted, and then suspended for 6 games that ultimately cost the team Ws. Tre did not do these things. I wish him well going forward. He's been a good Sooner. We don't see Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, having 'opt out' or transfer issues because they don't recruit the level of players we recruit. Bama kids don't leave because they play for Nsational Titles.

I could see if it was the cheez it bowl or something but we are playing the Florida Gators in a high profile bowl game. I would think any starting player would want to be a part of this. This COULD be the last game Brown ever plays! Remember Tom Wort? Dude left early and did he ever make a team or get on the field again? I'm not aware of it if he did

I'm talking about the character and commitment of the individual player. I know its a trend now but still..........it isn't like Brown is gonna be a 1st rounder or anywhere close to it
