Top 3 Sooners - UTEP

Several here are already expressing dissatisfaction with Gabriel which I believe is unfair and even more premature.
He was knocked out early last year with injury, now with a new team, behind an offensive line that is a work-in-progress right now, throwing to a receiving corps that is mostly unproven outside of Mims, Stoops, Farooq and Wease and played his first game in 118 degree on-field temperature.
Two more things: Gabriel's health is a huge priority as the depth behind him is unproven and his arrival is key to any OU success this year.
We can talk of Arnold's arrival next year as if he will step right in to the starting QB position, but he will still have to beat out Gabriel as a true freshman and then face Georgia in the second game of the season.
I believe Arnold is the future of OU's QB position. And in a perfect world, I hope he is the starting QB next year.
But Gabriel is the present and is OU's best QB. I expect him to improve quickly which he must do after next week's Kent State game.

Yes for first game situation, I thought Dillon did well. He needs higher yield short and medium throws..and OL will dial in better pass protection. I am pretty sure of this.

Kind of feeling like White got Cheetah because he was beat out at ML and IB. We'll still need him for a versatile defense but seeing him at essentially the Nickel on every down is not going to fly.

Exactly. For most of us that can remember the Roybacker position, Roy Williams was adept at playing the run and the pass, White lined up on a receiver probably isn’t going to go well some of the time so I think we’ll see Harrington start getting much more playing time imo.

Agreed. Compare A&M's King, who has 3 years on campus - not 6 months - who threw 2 picks vs Sam Houston St and pretty much sputtered in the first half at home besides two broken . I saw a lot of QBs deep balls overthrown opening week - that will work itself out with more time on the field with his WRs.

On D: Stripling was a beast in the spring game - what's going on with him?

As far as Stripling, Grimes is just better and better suited for the scheme. Stripling is more of a linebacker but could be very valuable in situational down and distance.

Kicking game very good:

Schmit did well with a FG and six PAT's for 9 points.
Turk had three punts averaging 45 yards.
Kick coverage was excellent: 2 kickoff returns with a 15.5 average return.
Punt coverage allowed minus yardage on 2 punts.
Bowman averaged 25 yards per 2 kickoff returns.
Mims averaged 8 yards per 2 punt returns.
