I thought it'd be fun to see who does the most with less. Just a fun time-killing list that might spark conversation.
Recruiting ranking average is based on Rivals class rankings from 2012-2015

1. Alabama 1
2. Clemson 11
3. Stanford 25
4. Ohio State 5
5. Oklahoma 14
6. Michigan State 31
7. TCU 38
8. Houston 70
9. Iowa 53
10. Ole Miss 22
11. Notre Dame 11
12. Michigan 23
13. Baylor 39
14. Florida State 6
15. North Carolina 34
16. LSU 9
17. Utah 45
18. Navy 102
19. Oregon 20
20. Oklahoma State 33

Florida State seems really low in that poll. Here's another one I came across last year by 247 Sports that took a 4-year average of all 4 major recruiting service (Rivals, Scout, ESPN and their own.). I guess the main thing to keep in mind is that even with high recruiting rankings, it still takes a good coaching staff to develop the kids. I would be kind of interested to see ESPN's rankings over this period as they sometimes seem to be "different" than the others.

As long as Bama keeps up their top recruiting each year its like matching pitbulls against collies on gameday.

There are a handful of programs that can match them. The problem that Saban/Alabama always seem to have is with mobile QBs and some type of option style offenses. What won for them last night was their trickery (on--side kick) and special teams.

Interesting. I just did the same thing for this year; 2012-2015 recruiting, but Rivals only ranking. I also just did what I thought was the top 1/2 of schools for brevity. Here's the list I came up with along with the 2015 final rankings next to the teams that received votes.
You can see who the real losers (doing less with more) and real winners (doing more with less) are.

Losers - Auburn, Texas A&M, UCLA, Texas, Miami, South Carolina, USC, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee
Winners - Clemson, Oklahoma, Stanford, Michigan State, TCU, Iowa, North Carolina, Houston, Navy, Baylor, Utah

Notice how the losers list is like the entire SEC? Interesting.

Well...news flash....most every DC in the country has issues with elite level mobile QBs. They are just ridiculously difficult to defend. Saban did what was needed to win. He thought outside the box and made a brilliant call with the on-sides kick. And special teams is part of the "team" concept, so can't blame Alabama for having superior special teams that helped win another national title.

Texas' ranking is the one that sticks out to me - and I have no fight in any of the Big 12 rivalries. To be ranked 15th over that 4-year period being THE SCHOOL in maybe the most fertile HS recruiting state/base (along with Florida and California) is inexcusable.

I think Ohio State may have given Alabama a good game too. But Saban coached a great game last night. Frankly, I've always thought that Bob Stoops was the better coach when he beat Alabama in the Sugar. Bob stayed with what was working whereas Saban quit giving the ball to #27 who was running up and down the field on the Sooners and put the game into his senior QB's hands. That played right into OU's strength. #27 was a big freshman running back. Derrick Henry.

You also have to think of the number of programs in Texas that are recruiting that talent. 10 years ago, it was really OU and Texas as the big time programs recruiting the state. Now, you have OU and Texas still, but add Baylor and TCU are really coming up in recruiting top kids, and also A&M and other SEC schools starting to get into Texas. Those programs are maybe much more attractive than a Texas program that has been down for about the last 5-6 years.

What won it for Alabama last night was Clemson's blown coverage in the secondary allowing the TE to get free down the sides and leaning to the wrong side on the kick return. Aside from this Bama handles Watson better than anyone Clemson faced. If there is a pretense here to argue that recruiting doesn't matter then tee it up again and again and Bama is going to be there every time. Switzer used to be the king of recruiting and he will tell you up front that getting the best players gives you a better chance of winning it all. He once said at an Alumni gathering at Rover Oaks Country Club that f he could get his pick of the best players in Texas he would win a Natty 7 out of 10 years.

That was true for Barry, but it didn't workout that well for Mack. LOL. Barry was not only a great recruiter, he was a terrific coach. I really feel you have be very talented to coach 4-5 star recruits. Saban has what it takes whatever it is. Not many do.

Remember that time OU kicked Bama's ass in the 2014 Sugar Bowl? That was awesome!

Bingo. BVs defensive strength, and his weakness, Allowed a mediocre QB to win the game for Bama.

That TD return and that offsides kick broke the camel's back. Clemson's special teams have always been suspect but I think they kicked all kickoffs but one into the end zone against us. Was hoping Ross would have his breakout day of the season. dummies should have added a 2 lbs of air to the football against Bama.. ;)
