*OK, we'll start with the only place that I think you can start.
Dax Hill.
There was some word early yesterday afternoon that he informed Oklahoma that he was probably going somewhere else. At the time I was given the information I wasn't sure if that was in regard to this weekend visit or in general.
Last night, I was informed that it probably means in general.
I don't think that Oklahoma will absolutely give up on Hill but I think they have seen the writing on the wall.
In the end as hard as Oklahoma worked on him they just never could get him to come down consistently and see the campus. They always felt like the kid himself was pretty interested but talking to a few sources it sounds like there was some concern over whether Mom and Dad were OK with that idea.
It will be interesting to see what this means to Oklahoma defensive back work. More on that momentarily.
*I got some word late last night that Oklahoma could be looking at picking up a pair of Rivals 250 linebacker commitment in the class of 2020.
Those two players are Memphis Whitehaven teammates Martavius French and Bryson Eason.
It had been expected at Easton would make the BBQ but French had not really been discussed up to this point. In talking to some people it sounds like neither is actually going to be able to make it in this weekend due to issues with a Friday night scrimmage type of event as well as difficulties finding a ride due to some work changes for one of the family members.
That being sad I've spoken to French and talk to several people about Eason and it sounds like Oklahoma is absolutely a very real Contender for both. In fact it sounds like the commitment talk may not be that far-fetched.
*As I said earlier I wanted to talk some more about defensive back recruiting.
After even some back and forth this week about where Jeffery Carter stood with Oklahoma it sounds like he is absolutely a take, and I think that is only bolstered by the Hill news.
Carter, not unlike Erick Young, has something of a reputation as a guy who likes to goof around and maybe troll people a little bit. So when all the talk started this week of him possibly committing I admit I was a bit skeptical.
However it sounds like he's been pretty upfront about everything and has informed a variety of people, in a variety of settings, that he is thinking hard about a decision.
My general feeling is that he is still seen as a potential corner, though he clearly has the type of frame that could move to safety without too much trouble. With that being said I would expect Oklahoma to make a move it some more pure safeties to replace the almost certain absence of Dax Hill from this class.
