In Denton. The Sooners went to North Texas and played two five-inning games and won both. It was more about watching than keeping up with the score, but it was great to see the new girls live and in person.

From these eyes, the best two pitchers were Lopez in three game 1 innings, and Shannon Saile in game 2.

Lopez started and blew away Eagle hitters for two innings. She threw three total. Nicole Mendez pitched the 4th and 5th and UNT scored on her.

In game two, Brooke Vestal, had some control struggles and didn't finish the 2nd. Saile had the best stuff of the night. She did allow a solo homer. But for the most part, the Florida International transfer threw the ball by UNT hitters. She had nice pop on the ball.

There were some impressive at bats by freshmen Sooner players. The two hardest hit balls of game one, came from frosh first baseman Grace Green. She had a home run, but the base hit she had, seemed hit at least that hard. Caleigh Clifton also had a homer to right center that hit the top of the wall and bounced over. I believe the score of game one was 5-1. Game two ended up in a 4-2 Sooner victory.

Green also had a long run scoring sac fly in game two. Sami Skelly started the night cap in left and hit the ball hard and reached base a couple of times.

Soph Lynnsie Elam caught every inning of both games.. Clifton played every inning at 2nd. Romero played every defensive inning, but gave up one at bat for a pinch hitter.

Maybe the most noticeable thing about the 2019 version of OU softball, is that there is a shortage of lefthandedness. All four pitchers are righties. We return Mendez, Lundberg and Mendez from the left side of the plate, but the only newcomer from the left batters box was Audrie LaValley, who had one pinch hit appearance in game two.

Grace Lyons played shortstop in game one and Eliyah Flores did in game two. Mendez played the first three innings of game one in center, before moving to the circle. Then Rogers moved to center. Fale Aviu made the best outfield defensive play of the night, with a nice running catch in the game in right center. Mendez did a nice job avoiding a collision after the catch.

Scooper Rick Mc and I drove up to Denton from Plano together and sat in what was likely the largest UNT crowd of the season. More than half there were in crimson.
