Thunder Boomer!

A great deal of perspective being served up in this series on the reality of sports that is often a topic of conversation here...just because you're supposed to win doesn't mean you always will.

This is going to be a monumentally disappointing end to the greatest regular season in NBA history.

An FYI, I'm rooting for the Warriors, though I'm not an avid fan. I like Curry. Just watching them fall apart here reminds me of times we've seen it happen to our Sooners and our fans get so upset thinking it's not acceptable. It happens. The greatest team in NBA regular season history looks out of sorts, slow and like they're more like a 5 seed. It is the nature of sports.

My only hope is that OKC doesn't fold against Lebron.

Yep, all you can do is put yourself in the position to win it all, beyond that it's luck, serendipity and wishing on a star.

I have to admit it's nice to see Russ and the boys continue to prove the haters and doubters wrong while Harden and all the other Texas teams sit at home and watch. Most of y'all probably don't even remember but I was on an island as a staunch defender of Westbrook and the moves Presti has made on this board a few years back. This is a homegrown team that isn't a free agent destination by any means but has been built from the ground up in smart draft picks. It's a team Oklahomans can be proud of and we're a game away from beating the best regular season team in history and moving on to the NBA Finals. There's still a long way to go but 5 more wins and OKC will hoist a championship banner. It's an exciting time...

A broken clock is right twice a day. Your prediction was wrong for the previous 3 years. Four years ago, there was no way you could have or even would have foreseen Durant one day playing second fiddle and supporting star to Westbrook. Westbrook proved year in and year out to be a flash in the pan and more detrimental than good. This year, he's on fire. He's turned the corner and is showing brilliant consistency. Playoffs MVP at this point. Years prior, he was usually Playoffs dunce.

I've always said that the Thunder were playing the long-game and are essentially forced to because they don't have the money to match the big market teams. People have been wanting the Thunder to go for broke and put all their chips down for the last four years and I've always supported their hesitance to do so. Maybe I've been "wrong" the last three years but I've always said that it was more important to build for the future than it was for immediate gratification. Also don't forget that they won 60 games a few years ago and they fell apart after Russ got hurt in the Houston series. They were a favorite to win it all that year in many people's minds. KD missed 50 games last year. OKC has gotten some bad breaks that have retarded their growth as a team to this point.

And it didn't take a basketball genius to realize that Russ was the most talented point guard in the league and has been the last 5 seasons. It's just that some of us never lost faith in the guy and were waiting for him to come into himself, mature and reach his full potential. So yes, I did foresee this because I've been saying the last four years that he is the most special point guard in the league despite what the Skip Baylesses of the world say about him.

Fair enough.
But admit, did you ever foresee Durant being Westbrook's support?
Westbrook has turned a corner, and as a Dallas fan / OKC hater, I can some to support OKC now. I'll be rooting for them to kick Cleveland in the nuts. And I'm not convinced Cleveland will be in the Finals, but I would love to see LJames go down in history as one of the players with the most Finals losses.

That's the thing, I don't really see KD as Russ' support. They're both equally essential to this team's success and that has already been proved in years past when one of them has gone down for a stretch. KD is a brilliant player but doesn't create his own shot as well as Westbrook does. Russ is more tenacious and plays with a chip on his shoulder that allows him to take over games in a different way than KD takes over games. Russ is simply playing much smarter now and has stopped heat checking and taking as many poor shots in the playoffs. There's no one in the league that can stop him from getting to the lane and creating plays and I think he has finally realized this.

That said, KD is still the most efficient superstar in the league and his contributions can't be minimized or go unnoticed. For the Thunder to close out this series and to beat the Eastern champion they still need them both to be playing at their best and to have guys like Ibaka, Roberson, Waiters and Adams to keep playing well and putting the pressure on defenses.

That's a PC comment. In these Playoffs, it's #1) Westbrook #2) KD if you have to rank.

Nope not PC, just my honest opinion and a realistic one. It may be a boring opinion but it's just the facts. Luckily there's no competition between the two because the media sure does like to try to create one and you could see how much all that talk has annoyed Durant in the past. He has always went to bat for Russ when people were saying that he took too many shots, etc.

These guys just want to win and they don't care about the pointless debates over who is the team's biggest star or who the leader is so I don't care either. I'll leave all that stuff to the talking suits on First Take.

Darn, all you posters are making me re-think about watching pro basketball. I may have to check it out. My last pro game was watching Micheal Jordan hot dogging and refusing to pass the ball to a wide open Stacey King under the basket. I turned the channel and have never watched another one..............

Watch this series at least.
Nut cutting time going back to the open sewer that is Oakland.

Just one more win to advance babies!

You should really check a game out. The worst thing that could happen is that you decide it's still not your cup of tea and flip the channel for another 25 years.

Just to let you know, there is no luck involved in what the Thunder have been doing over the last 10 games. This is coaching, and arguably to of the best players in this league buying in. The Thunder are just flat out better than Golden State. BTW Curry is not and never will be the greatest player to ever play.....for one thing he can not defend. Being able to drop the 3 ball doesn't make you a great player...shooter yes not great player. OKC is getting good team play......and that my friends is coaching.

PS Cleveland might not win a game in the finals. Wow last time I called a sweep was 1981 Philly vrs Lakers. Poor Magic. Lol

Uhh. Didn't Curry lead the league in steals? Can't defend? LoL
Let's not get carried away.

Edit.
Ahem... looked it up and confirmed he led the league in steals and is 7th amongst guards in defensive rating. Yeah, he can't play defense.

Oklahoma City guard Russell Westbrook has been named to the All-NBA first team, which was announced Thursday. The Thunder's Kevin Durant was named to the second team.

And? It's a media created award that means little in the grand scheme of things. What does that have to do with anything I said?

Unless your posts have some hidden meaning, I think it has a lot to do with what you said. Oh and.... don't shoot the messenger. I'm not one of the voters.

My post explicitly stated that I'm wasn't interested in any fabricated comparisons or competition between the two and simply stated I believed their worth to the team was equally important. Again, what you posted literally had nothing to do with what I quoted. Your reading comprehension must not be the best considering I was talking about how great Russ is just a post before that one.

Have another beer and enjoy the game.
