We should not honor traitors who took up arms against the government and tried to divide our country. I'm glad these schools had the courage to make the decision to change the names.
All the 'Founding Fathers' took up arms against their existing gubment (Britain) at the time of the Revolution so they ALL must be expunged...
Removing Confederate statues and monuments, or renaming buildings with Confederate generals will not change the past. But it will result in a poorer, less enlightened future.
Professor, had the British defeated the Revolutionary Army, then they would not have named any schools, bridges, parks or erected statues to honor those who took up arms against the British crown. But since the American Revolution was a success, there is no point in expunging the names of the American patriots who led or bravely fought in the Revolution. The same goes for the Confederates. They were traitors who wanted to divide our country and do not deserve to be honored with statues, schools, roads, etc. Yeah, they're a part of U.S. history, but these are not honorable men and should not be regarded as such.
I'm not in favor of "changing the past." We just don't need statues glorifying these treasonous people. Not having statues or schools named after Robert E. Lee or other confederate traitors will not make us "less enlightened."
That's the problem with History and revisionist History; where does it start/stop ? All facts should be taught. Maybe name the schools OKC 1-whatever and lose the heritage thereby dumbing down society further ?

In that case, we need to rename the state. Oklahoma can and eventually will be offensive by "red people," or at least those who have an agenda and want "red people" to be offended. Oklahoma needs to be renamed to a number as well. State #46, City #108, School #35 will become the proper nomenclature for schools.
But then again, school is a German cognate, and the Germans did establish the Nazi party, so anything German should still be offensive. School will no longer be allowed as a word. State #46, City #108, Education Center for the Youth #35.

This is in addition to labeling the Union cause as somehow noble and righteous...led by a president who wanted to maintain the Union even if it meant preserving slavery....while it was the Union side that carried out its genocide of the American Indian, before, during and after 1861-65.
My point is that there is no current democratic nation anywhere in the world that does not have a tainted and cruel history. And it is a nation's history and the lessons learned from it that define that nation's greatness.

Just as bad as the Nazis were, the Japanese slaughters of Chinese from 1931-45 (over 30 million) and the purges of Stalin of his own Russian brethren (over 40-60 mil ?) before and after we were allies in the actual first true global war called WWII were examples of totalitarian nationalist, socialism/communism evils

I just finished a new 500 page tome that says yes to that and much more. Japan, Germany were both idiotic to do what they did and Mussolini was tagging along. British appeasement and American isolationism played a big part in the murderous assumptions of Axis powers...
