Something I think you should consider. I've felt since the end of the bowl game, it would be very hard for Bob to let Trevor Knight be the starter this season. We witnessed the most scrutiny and pressure put on Stoops since he arrived during the off-season. I think many of us would have been happy for another assistant coaching change or two but for Bob to send several coaches packing is a very big deal for him. He definitely is feeling the heat.
All that said, I can't help but think that Bob is gun shy about Trevor. Now if he comes out and names Trevor the starting QB, I can't help but think it's the right call. If it's an even race, I just can't help but think that Mayfield will be the man.
My thoughts on the starting QB: I don't care who starts. I just want the guy who gives us the best chance to win to be the starter. I think Trevor was misused last season but he had some good games and some big time turnovers. I can't help but think he'll be much improved this year and in this system. Mayfield has some intangibles that are intriguing and I still remember his performance in the 2014 spring game. If Cody Thomas is the best QB, it would actually serve even better for OU as he has more time left at OU. All 3 QB's seem to represent the university well.
