Well that didn't take long. My brother just called to tell me that Cox has ABC back on their channel. He said it was off for about 45 minutes with that message at the bottom of the screen. He said he thinks KOCO is affiliated with Hearst. Sorry if this message caused anyone to mess their pants.

My brother just called and told me to check my ABC station. I did. I asked him what am I supposed to be looking for? I live in Tulsa. He said that he no longer has ABC on Cox. There is a message scrolling across the screen on what was the ABC channel notifying customers. I immediately called my Cox provider and was told this only affects the Oklahoma City market. something to do a Cox OKC losing their contract with Hearst, which provides ABC to Cox OKC. This is not fake news. I can't believe Cox could let this happen. Hopefully something can be done before kickoff Saturday night.

Oklabama I may have a solution for you. My wife told me for COX & ATT you can buy a special box with only NBC ABC & CBS & Channel 13 PBC. on it. It is not connected to the COX system.. YOU CAN BUY THIS BOX AT WALMART.
You would have to disconnect the Cox box & replace it with the Walmart box

Good luck my friend. I hope this works.

ABC is OTA.. an HD antenna would pick it up if your service provider doesn't.

FYI if things go south again:

Cox has an app called "Cox Contour" which will allow you to watch your Cox video subscription on about any smart device; phone, tablet, smart tv, Roku, Apple play, chrome box, etc.

Not sure if a local affiliate would block broadcast through the online service or not though. I'd check that first if it happens again to see if you have a free solution.

Go to a sports bar that has DirecTV with multi-regional access. Unfortunately, I am relegated to listening to the game on Tunein.com at 12:30 am here in lovely Lagos, Nigeria. Thank god for a chap by the handle of Holakyle that post highlights of the games within a few hours of the game onYoutube. I can watch replay on Sunday morning!!!!

You could get a VPN service relatively cheap (maybe $10/month) and as long as you have TV service in the US (DirecTV, Dish, Spectrum, Cox, whatever), almost all of them have live TV apps for smart devices. Connect your smart device to the Internet through the VPN machine and watch your home-base TV abroad.

Of course, that's assuming you have good enough network bandwidth in Lagos to stream any worthwhile video content that way. I think a 1080p broadcast requires almost 5 Mbps steadily.

That mostly works, but they are getting smarter. I did this for 3 years while living in China without many issues, and I still use a VPN, even though I'm back in the states. I use Astrill in stealth mode on my computer and Nord on my phones and tablets. Depending on which mode and which server I use, I get the occasional "not available in your region", or "it appears that you are using a VPN device" or something to that effect.... so it's kind of a dance between the VPN services and the content providers, with the game never ending.

Scottsdale, I was happy with Astrill when living abroad. I think I still have your email address if you want me to send you a link. And by the way, did you ever do a tour in India? I'm getting courted pretty hard for a gig over there.
