This is how the committee should decide

Ok the NCAA basketball tourney selection committee take into account the RPI...the RPI is like the blue print for everything. Thus gives them ammo to back up their decisions. No "body clocks" are mentioned. Things like:

Top 50 wins( wins vs RPI top 50)

Road Wins(road wins and road wins against good opponents)

last 10 games(obviously last 10 games of the season)

Bad Losses(losses that are past the 150 mark in RPI)

SOS(Strength of Schedule)

OOC wins(wins against quality OOC opponents)

are, again, the blue print. This is how they decide seeding and whether people should make it in.

NCAAF has the FPI...and it has YET to be mentioned as a blue print for how they pick these teams.

Let's adjust a few of these numbers because there are like 350 basketball schools and only 128 D1 football. So like for a "bad loss" it would be somewhere around 65 cause it's half as many. Let me give you how these would work out. Instead of top 50 wins we will Cut it in half since there are relatively half as many football as basketball teams.

Oklahoma

FPI RANKING: #1

FPI Top 25 wins:
#25 West Virginia
@#12 Tennesee
@#2 Baylor

Losses: #54 Texas(neutral site)

REM SOS: 4th

With games left against #6 TCU and #13 Oklahoma State that could possibly end up being 5 wins against Top 25 and possibly 3 total wins against top 13 teams ON THE ROAD. That doesnt include who tech sits at #35 with a chance to jump up with a win. With the Texas loss it is borderline bad but going off the FPI it just wouldn't be a absolutey horrid one even though we all look at it that way. The FPI doesn't just see a "4-6 Texas team" it sees a "Texas team who has played an INCREADIBLY tough schedule".

Notre Dame

FPI RANKING: #7

FPI Top 25 wins:
#8 USC

Losses: @#5 Clemson

REM SOS: 29

With a game left against @ #11 Stanford. Obviously if there was ever a "good" loss they have it.

Now I bet your wondering where Pitt(38), navy(41) and temple(51) are? Well they are in the late 30s and 40s. And it's because of the EXACT same reason everyone dogs on teams like Osu and Baylor. It's because temple hasn't played enough quality competition to vault themselves into the top 25. And in those games against their competition they have not dominated. This is why the FPI is so important. It doesn't just show "hey ND beat temple" it shows "Hey ND beat a temple team who's BEST win is against Penn State." It goes so in depth rather than looking only at the surface. This is why we need ATLEAST A ranking to HELP the committee.

Now as we have hands down the worse loss of the 2 but we potentially could have 5 top 25 wins compared to only 2 for ND.

They don't HAVE to pick the top 4 from the FPI but it would be good to Atleast make it a great starting point.
