This is for anyone who is not thrilled that Hurts is transferring to OU

I'm not thrilled with your description of both Baker and Kyler. :)

Both, Baker and Kyler were plenty good at their respective first schools. Simply put, they were both victims of very poor coaching and of poor coaching decisions. The reasons they transferred had nothing to do with their ability. Sumlin and Kingsbury just totally mismanaged both of them.

I didn't say they didn't have the talent to start. Of course they are both incredibly talented. I said neither was good enough to be the starter, whatever those reasons were. One man's rags is another man's riches.

Doubt and speculation on Hurts will show as being washed away in the spring game. I have every bit of confidence in Jalen. What would have been not so settling would have been a freshman QB behind a retooling OL. My bets are that he will not need the deep throws to be highly successful. Looking forward to seeing him in April.

There were quite a few comments on the board about Hurts not being the guy to bring in because he wasn't "great" at Alabama. My point is that Mayfield and Murray weren't "great" at Taco Tech and the Aggies either. It's going to be exciting to watch what Riley can do with Hurts. He only made the previous two into Heisman winners.

One difference, and we'll have to see how it works out, both Baker and Kyler had to set a year under Lincoln. Won't be the case with Jalen.
We'll see if the magic is the same without the learning period.

Here’s the thing though, ppl were saying they didn’t have it (throwing ability as they did in hs) and were cancers. Jalen Hurts got better while sitting. Not only did he carve up a top db unit he won that sec game for Bama. Honestly he should’ve been in much earlier that Clemson game. Georgia’s DBs are better than Clemson’s

I for one figured he was headed to Miami, but am glad to see him on our roster.
I didn’t have much faith in AK leading this team.

Jalen Hurts had an overall career completion % at Ala. of 62.9. That is hand grenade close to Landry Jones' career % @ OU. He was 26-2 in his career at the premier program in college football. Yet, he took being relegated to 2nd team like a man and continued to play a leadership role within the program. We've seen this play out before ( Trevor Knight ). What Hurts brings to our program is an intangible you can't create or coach...leadership, character, & loyalty. His contribution to the development of Mordecai, Rattler, our young Oline, and our incoming freshmen WR's will be huge. His presence in our locker room will be as important if not more so than his stats on the field. The kid is a coaches son with an impeccable pedigree. We are very lucky to have him at this crucial time in our program's history.

Best thing that's been said here about Hurts.

One thing to add.
RE: Hurts' passing numbers.
Even though Bama has "opened up" their offense, they are not yet running the same offense as OU.
Keeping up with Hurts while he was in HS, his strength was that he ad a very good arm for a running quarterback.
It will be interesting to see if he is like KM and have better numbers under Riley's system and tutelage.

I lied. I have two things.
Another thing to ponder comparing Hurts' transfer to Baker's and Kyler's, Baker and Kyler both sat a year under Riley before they could compete. Hurts will have Spring ball to get ready to compete. Will be an interesting year for OU football in 2019.

Very true regarding Alabama's offense. Hurts completed 72.9% of his passes in the action he saw in 2018. Mayfield had a 64% completion rate at Tech and Murray was at 59.5% at A&M.

Regarding the sitting a year, Hurts has a bunch more snaps under his belt than Murray and Mayfield combined did when they got the starting nod.

Some close friends of mine were immediately upset about Hurts coming to OU. Comment was, when we step on the field with Bama in the playoffs, Bama starts off with the best QB on the field.
My thoughts are, if Hurts is better than Mordecai and Rattler and wins the OU job, Bama would win the QB matchup against Mordecai or Rattler, too (Hurts not at OU).
I can't figure out who would have been the better choice and would give OU the better QB against Bama??? Not like you can just go pick your QB if you don't like who you have.

Hurts, despite all conversations to the contrary, is OU's best option in 2019 to start at quarterback....and not just on the field. To be "upset" over Hurts coming to OU is unfounded and silly.
"When we step on the field with Bama"?....Let's get this team playing defense FIRST. OU looks to always be good on offense, but will always remain a "paper tiger" until playing defense is taken seriously.

And if we step on the field with Bama in the playoffs, the guy who is QB is going to be pretty special. It won't be because the Selmons are back on the D line.

Lots of good things stated in this thread and I admit I was one of those guys that had reservations about Hurts coming in. The more I read about him though the more I realize I may be very wrong about him as a passer who can be as accurate as Baker and Kyler was. Especially theability to throw the long ball.

My expectations are still in that wait and see mode but I also think after this upcoming season we may see either Mordeci or Rattler transfer out. I dont think either one will be interested in waiting for their turn at QB.

If they transfer out they are weak-minded; one bad play & #2, #3 are in play. Anything can/will happen in D1 as we saw last year to several of our RB's. We just watched an anomaly of a player who managed to do in one year the near impossible.

Easy for you to call them weak minded, because you're looking out for yourself as a fanatic. They have to look out for their best interest and their future.

Very good stuff. I unfortunately believe that he will be compared to Baker & Kyler, the two previous Heisman winners. The media will be relentless. Only fans at OU that are well read & a study of the team will understand your post.

There's more to the game than just talent. If that were so, you can tell your friends OU will never win another championship, so they might as well stop watching.

Luckily, it's talent plus coaching. I'll take Hurts plus Riley over Once in a Lifetime plus whoever Saban selects.

Hurts is going to have a big year from a production standpoint. You can pretty much guarantee that. And, I think just like mayfield and murray, we can assume JH will produce more at OU than he did at his previous school.

What is unknown is how high JH's ceiling is. We didn't know how well Murray could do until game one. And it was pretty shocking.

Reily's offense will maximize JH's performance. Will we be shocked again?

Will JH claim OU's third straight heisman?
