In high school, my coach would do the same thing. If you screwed up, he would grab you by the mask and ask "Why did you do that?". Of course, the answer was usually, "I don't know". He would then say, "Are you stupid? Are you stupid? Well you must be. Now sit on the bench".

I just skipped all the nonsense. When my coach asked me why, I just said "because I'm stupid".
