I was curious so I clicked on the headline. When I got to the bottom 10, I chuckled. The list is not sport’s related, but I immediately thought about college football. I copied and pasted the top and bottom 10 in case you do not want to click on the link.

https://bgr.com/2020/09/19/dumbest-states-united-states-ranking/

Based on the data, here are the top 10 smartest states in the United States
  1. Massachusetts
  2. Minnesota
  3. New Hampshire
  4. Connecticut
  5. Wisconsin
  6. Kansas
  7. Vermont
  8. Iowa
  9. New Jersey
  10. Colorado
The bottom of the list, ranked in reverse order (so #1 is the “dumbest”).
  1. Hawaii
  2. Nevada
  3. Mississippi
  4. Alabama
  5. Florida
  6. South Carolina
  7. West Virginia
  8. Louisiana
  9. North Carolina
  10. Arizona

I hear about bias against different races in IQ testing and other such things. But a bigger bias IMO is that IQ tests are part of the LW bias. If you believe in God in a traditional American view, then the bias shows up in questioning. Massachusetts at the top of the list of "smartest" is about a measurement of how liberal a testing person might be. There are other factors, but that's a biggie. Then throw in the other racial biases, and all of these southern states being labeled dumb, is about the biases of the testers.

Dam yankees. 😉

Hawaii is different. It's a different culture. It's a very different value system, and English isn't exactly part of the heritage. But what do these "top eight" all have in common?
  1. Massachusetts
  2. Minnesota
  3. New Hampshire
  4. Connecticut
  5. Wisconsin
  6. Kansas
  7. Vermont
  8. Iowa
Probably the lowest percentage of non-whites in the country. It's not about intelligence. It's about how the testing is conducted. Are you old enough to remember when they talked about how "instinctual" Willie Mays was as a player? We know what that was the code word for. As a ball player, Willie was as smart as they come. He did have an inferior education. On those tests, he'd have fit into the dumb category. But he was the opposite.

Kansas and Iowa? C'mon! They may know more about corn and wheat, but most of them haven't read a book since high school ... and it's doubtful they read them there.

These rankings of smartest/dumbest states smack of a Hillary Clinton work.
Got to love that voter-identity Hillary and her pilot fish Democrats play every 4 years......half the country is blessed with her "leadership" and half are simply unworthy, irrelevant "deplorables".

I don't have much to say about the testing and comparison criteria. We moved from Dubai to Scottsdale for one main reason. So our daughter could go to high school in the USA. Dubai is not a good place for teenagers in general for many reasons. All expat schools in Dubai are private and funded by the parents of the students. Very expensive. My daughter started in KG2 through 8th grade at Dubai American Academy (DAA). She enrolled as a freshman in Scottsdale. After two months my wife and I were called to a meeting with the school counselor. My daughter was being placed in advanced classes for the remainder of her first semester. She would be placed in sophomore classes the second semester. She graduated her junior year based on her academics. She was considered As & Bs in Dubai, say in the top 20%. She was top of her class in Arizona. She maintains that 6th grade work in Dubai was being taught in 9th grade in Az.

Interesting replies to this thread. When I saw the bottom 10 I immediately thought of football. The AP has 6 SEC schools in its football top 10. The SEC has 7 schools located in the bottom 10 of the "smart list". In addition 6 of the 7 bottom 10 location are in the SEC West Division. Did the SEC purposely put all the "dumb state" schools in the same conference for a reason?

I'm not sure who makes up the "smart list" nor the criteria used. I do know who makes up the AP top 10 list.

Polls and rankings such as this "smartest" and "dumbest" states ranking are graphic examples of what Twain meant.
I have lived in Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut and I have come to believe that people are basically the same everywhere. The accents and political views vary, but being a jerk or being a nice person are not a products of geography.
Anne Frank wrote during the darkest time in human history, "In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart". Too bad our politicians....and too many of us......don't share by this belief.

Could not have said it better myself. Kudos!
The fact I clicked on the related link and read the post made me feel less intelligent.
