Spoke to Brix today, along with several sources close to the recruitment.
Depending on who you talk to here (and I’ve talked to quite a few reliable folks), the word is either that Brix is down to OU and K-State, or he’s down to OU and Nebraska. Obviously, the common denominator there should be an encouragement to Sooner fans. For my part, in speaking directly to Brix, I get the sense he’s going to have a harder time saying no to K-State than Nebraska.
The Wildcats are selling an opportunity to compete for championships in a revitalized Big 12, as they’re fresh off a conference title and Chris Klieman has hardware in his resume at North Dakota State. They were also the first offer for Brix, so they got a jump start on building relationships with him and his family. Nebraska is pitching an opportunity to stay close to home and be part of a renaissance in Lincoln. But I will say that Brix continues to appear most keen on Oklahoma’s pitch, which combines prestige with elite technical development under Bill Bedenbaugh and a top-flight strength program led by Jerry Schmidt.
As for when a final decision comes, I don’t know. Heck, Brix himself doesn’t yet know. But I’ll continue to keep close tabs on this process and provide another update when one becomes available. Expect more intel no later than next weekend, when I’ll be up to Iowa once again.
