The Printed Word...

We always get reminded of how "great" OU football has been and how "great" OU football still is....and how any denial of these facts is being negative or is trashing players and coaches.....and that all is good with the football program.....and how most teams would kill to have OU's football history.
While no one here expects, or should expect, a national championship each year, these playoff game failures have mounted to the point of legitimate and justifiable concern and frustration, not to mention the perception nationally of OU's failed big game reputation.
I'm hoping that the 2017 season is not some kind of high water mark for OU football and that changes both in coaching and recruiting can stop this terrible postseason history....."sooner" rather than later.

Well Stated, CT...Spot on! Unfortunately, those Failures are performed on the Big Stage, where our teams have been exposed to the World, unlike some of our many Successes which play mostly to OUr Fans...

For some time, I was unaware that, in some quarters, we were considered laughing stocks...

I'm not a Tram Fan...Just putting this out there for your 'Reading Enjoyment'...

Seeing the facts organized, and in print, is much more startling than all of the chaotic thoughts swirling around in my head...

Aw AAAAAAA. I can’t take anymore. I use to laugh at the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills. This is surely meant to be some type of mental amercement for all those years.

Well Barry, win some lose some. Your going to get a great number of Sooner followers printing that garbage. As bad as ESPN printing the number of Bob Stoops bowl losses at the bottom of the screen.

What's up with the Tramel hatred ?
I haven't yet read anything of his that I find inaccurate or hostile about OU football. He's a critic at times, but even so, where's the beef (especially as it relates to this article) ?

The truth is difficult for some. Mostly facts with little commentary.

Its a good article but LR is missing the big picture here. Yes it was a great season and more than what most of us expected but if he really wants to get over the top then show us with his actions. He knows the problem that has hindered OU for years now is a total lack of D. Yet why not cut the head off that snake now and show us all you mean business and want to take that next step?

Instead of cuddling that problem attack it head on. If he wants to take that next step then it starts this off season. If not then his hands are truely tied or he is goung to be content with just winning the Big 12 and making an occasional playoff.

Just my 2 cents

I still am expecting him to make the changes. It’s just too obvious that they are needed. If he is thinking that Mike can do better with better players it’s going to mean he has another 3 years so Mike can develop the new studs.

I sure hope so. That’s going to be a long wait though. Wouldn’t you think the recruits would be asking before they sign?

An honest question here. If you was a upcoming defensive stud and have seen what has transpired the last few years would you really want to play for Mike? Maybe its just me but I would be more apt to sign knowing that things may be headed in a new direction if a new DC was to be brought in.

I just dont see any recruit that would be signing because of Mike.

Maybe so. I just would be be really pissed if my son signed on thinking that Mike and Tim were going to coach him with that being one of the main reasons for coming to OU. Everyone must understand coaches leaving for another job but signing and then immediately firing a coach isn’t right. I doubt that Riley would ever tell a recruit to sign with the understanding Mike is going to be fired after signing day. No way.

This is why I think the change needs to be made now. I agree firing a coach after signing period is not the right thing to do because how can a kid respect someone who basically lies to them. I just don't even want to think about having to deal with another year with Mike running this defense but I fear we as fans are going to have to once again put up with it. I am sick of having basketball like defenses that puts a lot of pressure on the offense week after week. Seriously I would think some guys on the offensive side wouldn't outright say it but I bet even they have those private thoughts of "Wow our defense really stinks".

And why would you think that Mike Stoops would stay in a place that treats him like Steve Bartman was treated by the Cub fans. Can he even enjoy going out in public?

Well I don't know how he is treated in Norman to be honest considering I don't live in that area. Here is all I know as far as I am concerned. He may be a great guy for all I know but he isn't getting the job done and I think we all know that in business if you have a guy that isn't performing or is lagging down your company you have to put your personal feelings aside and do what is best for your company. He may be your best friend but even he should understand that he isn't getting the job done and to expect some critisism from others.

I am sure there are those types of fans that may not be to kind to him in public but I doubt there are many that express it him

Just to clarify my post, I too would be extremely surprised if Mike is mistreated directly, but based on his own comments it is crystal clear that he feels the dissatisfaction the Sooner base has with him and the way the OU defense has played. He would have to be in a comma not to know because he is questioned, his brother was questioned and one of the first issues Lincoln Riley had to address following the game was Mike Stoops. He is not following social media message boards, but he knows he isn’t wanted. That would be very hard to deal with, IMO. That’s all I was attempting to convey. I just did a poor job doing so.

Well the last two recruits that committed and signed were top recruits., a 5 star and a 4 star. With another high 4 star leaning heavy OU. All of which were defensive players. So something is up. To hear it from one of them, they all know that LR is the real deal. "He's young." With theses commitds, OU just moved up to #6.
