Texas' Tom Herman: 'I don't know why we're ranked in the Top 25'

Most coaches undersell their team in the preseason. I never heard any coach say that his team was the best team and would win every game.
Coaches tend to let the media run with preseason proclamations.

I remember a team getting a new coach in 1999 after 4 bad years and a 5 win season in 1998. That newly coached team looked very impressive in 1999 and went undefeated in the 2000 season. Nothing I hate more than orange teams but will not underestimate a team based on that hate.

I remember how Old Yeller and then Webster were going to do the same thing. How do those losing seasons taste?

Could not stand Mack, but he did give us the greatest football game ever played (still think about it everyday) along with many great seasons. Loved Strong and was still with him until the Kansas loss. Have always taught my kids that many times good comes from bad. The Kansas debacle will end up the best thing to ever happen to the program. Funny how things work sometimes.

But the loss was to #64 Maryland in Austin. And the way texass played with so many errors they looked like they had never even been coached

I loved the way texass return guys on kickoffs kicked the ball instead of catching it.
(Did Herman teach them that)?

I'm speaking all time, not currently

The last 7 years they have had at least 5 losses in 6 of those 7 years.
Also in the last 7 years in four of them they had 7 losses.

They don't look fine to most college football fans. They look like they are in the gutter

Tell us why texas is a "nice program".

To most of us it looks like they are falling apart.
Bull, it's an opening season loss, in the first game with a new coach. Tap the brakes a bit and see how Texas ends the season. This will really test Herman's mettle if he is up to the task or not. He has his work cut out for him.

Lets remember OU went through some very bad times in the 90s and even other programs have had a stretch of not so good seasons.

One game does not define a season and its easy and fun to kick Texas whike they are down but eventually all bluebloods once again will be relevant at some point. Now if it takes Texas 20 more years to do that Im ok with that just as long as we dont see OU go back down that stretch again.

If Texas somehow regroups and beats USC the media will jump right back on the Herman train. The excuses after all the pre-season hype from those media folks is just a way to cover themselves from jumping on the Herman train in the pre-season.
