1. Creed seemed to fix the snap issues. Against UCLA, Kyler almost needed to fair catch a couple. Most were so soft, it often seemed to impact the timing of plays. Yesterday they were crisp and on target. Maybe he's like Troy Aikman, and doesn't like it wet.

2. Iowa State max protected a lot. Made them hard to blitz and let them find a way to beat 5'10 DB's with a 6'6 guy, Butler. But we were able to hold them to less than a 7 point average per quarter. On the road getting a win, and holding Montgomery to less than 100 on the ground was a big deal.

3. That's hard to do on a 90 degree day, with multiple injuries to your DL. Perkins played some, but mostly we played Mann, Bledsoe and Gallimore and not much of a break. Doesn't help the pass rush.

4. The new greatness on special teams ensured great field position yesterday. ISU punted short and mostly out of bounds, and squib kicked all of the kickoffs but one.

5. Two guys look to me like potential All Americans that wouldn't have been predicted before the season. Hollywood has become a quality receiver, not just a guy who beats you deep. And Seibert is the best place kicker in the country right now. We aren't punting much, but he's greatness. Wonder how we'll replace him in 2019.

6. Still think we're one RB short. They didn't seem to want to put Pledger out there on the road, despite what looked like a potentially serious injury to Sutton. I don't think they trust him as a pass blocker. And I'm a little surprised that Brooks hasn't worked himself up to situational player yet. Likely the same pass pro issue.

7. I don't think OUr OL is quite as good as the 2017 version. Orlando was a big loss.

8. Iowa State was able to take away OUr favorite run scheme, the counter trey, pulling the backside guard and tackle. We were able to run a cousin scheme a couple of times with the HB coming across to block the linebacker. They were really selling out to stop that counter action. But that led to 9.

9. LR burned them with a fake of counter trey on the pass to Tease just before the half. We hadn't shown that particular scheme before. The guy covering Tease had no chance. Pretty remarkable that they trusted the former walk-on in such a crucial situation. Those 7 points got to be real important in the last five minutes of the game.

10. Overall, the defense had its least impressive showing of the season. Who'd have thought we'd have to go to Iowa to get tested by the heat. Those guys haven't had to play many minutes in the 2nd half so far. But they made important plays in the 4th quarter to secure a road win, and did it with a DL shortage in crunch pass rush time. FINALLY, the first important turnover of the year. Hopefully, the first of many.
