A different slant to “telling the story” this week. Instead of looking at the five biggest plays from Oklahoma’s game against Texas in the annual Red River Showdown, going to examine the five biggest defensive gut-punches.

*Texas scored 48 points, the most ever for the Longhorns against the Sooners in the RRS.

*OU has now scored 48 and 45 points in its last two losses.

*The Sooners were unable to force a turnover and still have not had a red zone stop this season. Every single possession has led to a field goal or a touchdown inside the 20, including the Longhorns going 5 of 5 on Saturday with all five being touchdowns.

“It's all frustrating. It hurts. But it is what it is,” defensive coordinator Mike Stoops said. “You've gotta keep moving forward and we'll figure it out, figure out what to do. I'm extremely disappointed in my inability to get this team to play at a higher level. It takes everybody pulling the same way. Certainly, I take a lot of that responsibility, that's for sure.”

Play No. 1: Ehlinger and Humphrey get Horns rolling

Play No. 2: OU lets Texas off the hook

“Started to get in a little rhythm, then we gave up a 3rd-and-19, I thought was critical,” Stoops said. “Kind of break our back there. Missed an assignment, let a guy cross. We were starting to get a little bit into the game. At that situation, we needed a big stop. I think we may have turned it over, had ‘em in a third-and-long, didn’t get off the field. Bad. You can’t make a mistake like that in a game like this and get away with it. Just too many errors like that.”

Play No. 3: Personnel issues lead to easy score

Play No. 4: Humphrey takes the OU defense for a ride

“Our lack of physicality at times was troublesome across the board. Still, our inability to tackle and be physical,” Stoops said. “We had ‘em stopped on what, 3rd-and-18? And they drug us for 10, 12 yards, give it to ‘em on fourth down. So schematically and other ways, just nowhere near good enough for a type of game of this magnitude.”
