TD Roof!

A 3-star 5.5 rated athlete out of high school, recruited by Army, East Carolina, Troy, Western Michigan, Georgia Tech and others (but no blue-bloods), Roof has developed into a "heat-seeking missile" on the college level.
His high school videos have him at running back with breakaway speed, return specialist and linebacker and as a very physical player.
Adding to a LB corps with White, Stutsman, Ugwoegbu, Whitter and recruits Lweis, McKinzie and Kanak, Roof is a solid veteran addition.

Venables is probably one of the first defensive coaches to run a predominantly nickel defense, because he knew he had to stop the spread.

Nickels weren't commonly used back then, so the nomenclature was linebackers and safeties. Today, the nickel is used big time in college ball, because everyone can sling it.

Everage, also coached by Venables, was undersized like Roof; 6'0 200 if my memory holds. He carried a safety title due to the times, but he was really like a present-day nickelback.

So, I was just arguing that this guy might see the field more than anticipated. He's too small to be a starting linebacker, but he has speed and hits like a missile, a prototypical Nickelback like Everage was.

Roof has been a linebacker and special teams player and is shorter than Everage at 5'11" while Everage either 6'0" or 6'1".
I see your point, especially about Roof getting plenty of playing time.
But he does have skills to play linebacker or something like a "monster man" especially because he has pass rushing skills that are aided by his lack of size as he shoots through blockers before they can react. His videos show this.
And he's a good tackler.....something of a lost art at OU these days....and is desperately needed.

Yep I was agreeing with you from the get go. I'm not delusional. A 5'11" 200 pounder is never going to be a middle linebacker in the power 5 echelon. But that doesn't mean he won't see the field often. I can totally see him as a Brandon Everage style speedster that can play with WRs but also has the stones to go head first into a running gap.

well at 5'11-6'0 that bigger than both guy playing nickel right now, Bowman and Criddle. Id like to see Justin Harrington stick around and have him roaming around at the nickel spot.
