TCU's OC Doug Meacham jumps ship to Kansas

Same ole deal. Meacham was a genius when he had a great quarterback playing well, and last year, Hill made TCU's play callers look average. Great quarterbacking has to be developed and recruited for sure, except when a walk on just shows up and plays great.

KU's quarterback last season was dreadful. Until they find a guy who can play, Meacham will have problems as an OC. I do think Beaty has them headed in the right direction, but they have a really long ways to go.

Do you ever preface anything you say with "in my opinion". Of course not!
You have not heard the last from me. We are going to discuss OU women's, basketball, Geno Auriema, OU softball hitting instruction, and much more

When we changed the oversized spread on the stances with a new batting coach, we were a lot less susceptible to the high and tight rise ball, and won a national title.

I think they saw the same thing I did.

I do a lot, though I usually put it in the middle or at the end, rather than the beginning.

But I can't understand for the life of me, why you'd object so much to this particular instance, unless you think KU is a potential football power.

I would tend to have agreed with you on this years and years ago. Mangino winning the Orange Bowl at Kansas, Snyder and the Manhatten Miracle, and Briles turning Baylor into a conference title contender has since caused me to reevaluate my stance on whether programs can or cannot ever become football powers.

I just didn't understand the criticism on this issue. Meacham is going to have a hard time because they've been so inept at quarterback, and I don't care how good you are. You can make a guy better, but there is a silk purse, sow's ear dynamic in this that comes into play.

Their quarterback was the worst one I've seen in several years playing for a XII school.

I am a bit surprised that Meacham has taken the KU job and I wish him great success. I would love to see KU become competitive again and help strengthen the conference. He's got a lot of work ahead of him as there isn't much for him to work with in Lawrence.

This is really a puzzling move. Meacham has a decent reputation even though last year's offense at TCU was pretty bad. I understand he had to leave because he was in Patterson's dog house. I remember some people here suggesting OU hire him when we had our last OC opening. But KU is not a great launching pad for a career upgrade. His time had run out at TCU but I think he could have found a better job than KU.

In my opinion.

So you know more than Trip McKay, who is one of the most respected hitting coaches in college softball. JT Gasso simplified the hitting technique this past year. It was not about a significant stance adjustment. Your self serving arrogance never ceases to amaze me. Glad Lauren Chamberlain did not have you as her hitting instructor. Where do you come up with this stuff, Plaino? So let's narrow the stance so we can handle the up and in rise ball. Would you like me to list the pitches that would be difficult to handle from this position. Wide stance offers great stability. Load, rotate, thrown hands. I played four years of small college baseball, thirty years as a head high school basketball coach, seven years assistant football, one year assistant softball coach on a Texas State Championship Runner Up Team (3A) . I don't believe in criticizing people who know more than I do. One more thing Plaino, you say that you really hate the new offensive structure that Sherri Coale has implemented.
You know, the one that gives the players more freedom with less structure. Could it possibly be that since Coach Coale is with her players each day in practice, that she is actually better qualified than you to determine what offense is best suited for her players. Also, some one with your basketball "expertise" surely realizes that the trend has been for several years toward less structure, dribble drive motion and allowing talented players to go one on one.

Still have that 45 laying around somewhere; it was the flip side to Feels So Good.

Children of Sanchez came out as it's own LP about a year after Feels So Good. Mangione had a live album entitled "Live at the Hollywood Bowl" and it had both tunes on it, but the studio recordings were a year or so apart.

Trust me on this. :)

You are both correct... Children of Sanchez and Feels So Good were released as singles separately and together...

I know that we ditched the overly spread stances last year. We had none. And it worked. You can rant all you want. I understand the theory. It's about keeping the eye level at the same place. And that's a good thing. I just believe that there are other ways to accomplish that. And I'd point out that other schools don't share that philosophy who are also successful.

I will concede that Sheri knows a whole lot more about basketball than I do, and especially women's basketball. She is absolutely more qualified to make those decisions. But I'm still allowed to dislike it. That's not the same thing as calling her incompetent or calling for her firing. I'm not. She's earned the right to implement whatever she wishes. I just don't think it's gone well, and I don't believe she has the point guard play to make it worthwhile.

And although it wasn't at the school level. I've coached as much baseball, and more softball than you have. So while I'm not the authority you cite, I'm also not an incompetent.

I can vouch for Plaino's successes as a baseball coach. He won several championships and tournaments in his day when I was a kid... that is a FACT!

There are a lot of really good amateur non-school baseball/softball coaches that devote time and money to coach young/teen boys and girls. I can imagine Plaino as one of those really good ones. IMO, the best such coach I've ever known was a good friend, Doug Weese from Midwest City, OK, coached the Outlaws' teams for more than 35 years. His 2010 squad won the American Legion World Series. So yeah, volunteer amateur coaches have my respect. They do it for the love of the game.

No you are wrong, we did not completely ditch "the overly spread" stances. Look At the video. Erin Miller -same wide stance. Leah Woodach same wide stance. Shay Knighten, look how wide her stance is. Yes, Plaino I know about eye level and hitting. I also know that other successful programs have a different philosophy. Nobody thinks that you are an incompetent. It's just me who as a high school coach by profession, has a hard time wondering how you believe you know better than college coaches who are professionals.

I am certain that you know more than most if not all of us and I am sincere. But sometimes we fans get to thinking we know more than the coach. Like for instance, I am convinced I know more than Mike Stoops. Probably not, but that's the way I feel. It's easy for me to say because the defense isn't as good as it's been and as a fan I always expect the best. That's just the way it is.

What video?

And what exactly does videos of softball stances have to do with this topic? The topic here is about whether Chuck Mangioni is better than Meachum...

I don't see anything about Chuck Manginoi in the "topic" or Mark Mangino for that matter. It's all about Kansas being in a better place now that Doug Meacham is head football coach. I say maybe a little but not enough to make much difference because it's KU football.
