Swinney Class

I guess I am cynical. I read something completely different in Swinney's word. Dabo took every opportunity to point out that Bates was a low level HS coach until he, Dabo gave him the opportunity to go higher. Dabo uses the, very inappropriate "I". "So, I gave him an opportunity". Dabo also points out that losing Bates was ok because Clemson got "Nick".

“I gave him an opportunity to come in here. At that time, he had only coached at JUCO and high school and 1-AA, and I gave him a chance to come in here and coach Dexter and Christian."

Where I come from one never uses "I" to define successes or positives. "We" is the correct pronoun. Dabo goes on the point out that Bates will be a candidate for Head Coach. It's as if he is enticing Bates to look around and leave Brent.

Is it obvious that I have never been a Dabo Swinney fan?

Good guy. I bet Dabo is a closet OU fan now.
He does sound like a good dude. Worked his way up from hs to OU. Great coach and maybe even better recruiter. Can't wait to see how this defense pan's out. Great coaches going after great players, and getting them!

You're right. When I go back and read it again with your words in my head, I can see that point of view, for sure.

I’ve never been a Dabo fan, partly, because I can’t get my head around an adult taking on his childhood nickname which is so uncommon. William Christopher “Dabo” Sweeney. Bubba is bad enough but at least there’s a National Bubba Day every June 2nd. And Bubba fits Watson since he cries like a big baby every time he wins a golf tournament. Sweeney is just a normal guy, it seems. Dabo…..Come on. Why not Bill/Billy or Chris? I know this doesn’t have anything to do with his coaching.

I think you mean Bubba. I was saddled with the nickname "Butch" before I was old enough to protest. It stuck with me to this day. It didn't help that I did not have a legal middle name. First and last was it!

"Dabo" helps with recruiting. 😁
