I like Striker and think he is an awesome player and all, but is he really the best spokesperson for all the athletes? I saw him on CNN last night and it was honestly hard to watch. Maybe he has been out in front because of his video response to the incident?

Well, he's not as eloquent as Spencer Tillman, and we shouldn't expect that either.

I think this was it, plus, perhaps he is more of a leader on the team than we may know. I liked that he was human enough to show his emotions and yet smart enough to do a re-do after his anger subsided. I think he came across as very human.

You used an unnecessary comma.
I agree with him in spite of the unnecessary comma. That is a small thing. I question the smarts of anyone who watches CNN.

Well take your pick... it's been on all Cable Network News all day long....

CNN, FOX, MSNBC

Fox just reported NBC story from a 'date' girl two years ago that did the same bus tour, using the same same chant, & same song.

Well not that I'm worried about Roy questioning my smarts, but I was just switching channels and happened to see him on there talking. Personally, I'm a Fox News kinda guy.

I don't think I'd be calling him much of a leader right now. He has put out a quote that basically tells any African American recruit to go elsewhere.

That's worse than the FBomb tirade.

I mean saying something that stupid, and it is incredibly stupid, is inexcusable. But again, using the Nword gives carte blanche to say anything in response because well that's the one unforgivable sin.

It will be used by every school recruiting against OU this year and likely for a while.

I 'd call his "leadership" into serious question.

I didn't see this. Do you have a link?

Front row of the team protest yesterday from L to R: Sterling, Darlington, Sanchez, Stoops, Tapper, Knight, and Striker. I guess Stoops considers him a leader.

"I'm gonna let them know we don't agree with it. That's not how we operate here as a team. We're trying to rally around each other and stand up for what's right. If you join us, you can be part of that." E.S.

I don't call his leadership into serious questioning. He only speaks the only truth he knows. He's hurting. Big time. He's in a tough situation as are all of the students, especially the athletes. He speaks his mind in this article and sometimes the truth hurts. I'm not a black man and from what I can tell neither are you. Having said this, I don't think either of us can understand his pain and how he is explaining himself.

As stated yesterday, this will take some major doing to undo, if it can be done at all. It's a huge hit for OU. I suspect that there are many acedemic students that will not attend OU either. Keeping in mind that the athletes and academic recruits have choices on where they can attend. While I suspect that other schools have issues w/ a certain level of racism, OU has a known fact now.

As far as the dirt that other schools will use against OU, his comments will be used, but whether he spoke to this subject or not, the dirt would be flying anyway.

It's going to be tough sledding going forward. Time as a way of healing things though and hopefully others will help Striker and all of the team, ahtletes, and students get through this.

This is what is being referred to...

"What parent would want to send their child here now?" Striker said Monday morning in an exclusive interview with The Oklahoman. "If I was an incoming freshman and about to come here, and my momma saw that, I don't think she'd want me to come here. It's scary for people."

"It's hard because how do I justify them being around some of these people? No parent would want their kids around those people. I don't think my mother would let me come here. I don't think I'd want to come here, either. Who wants to send their child around that?"

I don't think the issue is with Striker at all though. It's that Kersey chose to tweet out portions of what Striker said without the rest as context. When the next part is added in, it looks completely different...

"We're gonna have to deal with these guys coming in," Striker said. "I'm gonna let them know we don't agree with it. That's not how we operate here as a team. We're trying to rally around each other and stand up for what's right. If you join us, you can be part of that.

Can't fault Striker for the sensationalism that Kersey tried to create on social media. The whole story doesn't generate as much traffic in regards to the possible effect on recruiting.

I think Striker is showing quite a bit of leadership myself.

Totally agree. I am sure STRIKER has been treated very well since he has been at OU. We all need to move forward and put this behind us.

Medic...I am on the balance beam with this considering his initial rant on snapchat...I really struggle with that. He apologized for it...yet he bounced out many expletives.....says I am sorry but I was upset? I don't think that is leadership as much is it is remorse for what he did on snapchat.

I think I've seen you over on the premium board. There is a three page discussion about it over there. And counting.

They've called off practice again today. I'm wondering if they might push back the Spring Game if they keep postponing practices.

Told you guys this was going to get blown way out of proportion. Why are they calling off practice????? Is everyone so sensitive these days that they can't get over a what a few idiots decided to do?

Oh come on...at the distinct risk of sounding insensitive, grow a sack and get back to practice...Damn it!

This program went through the Kennedy assassination and 9/11 without missing a game, or a practice, much less something that might be a little less significant as the Spring Game. Geez...

Looky here now, I know a lot of well centered, hard working black cats, and I firmly believe that most, if not all of their default takes on this deal would be alright, you've made your point, crystal clear, but it's time to go back to the routine and goals that made you sign with OU in the first place.

I could be egregiously wrong on this, but I don't think I am.

Now, all you august detractors...let me have it, with both barrels...I'm tough...

I'm sure they will Sooner or later (no pun). But perhaps we are so far removed from the immediate situation that we can't comprehend the amount of problem(s) this has cost the student and the student athletes. Keeping in mind that less than 5% of the student body is African American and that the team consists of a much, much larger percentage. I say give them the time they need to properly heal, set a date, and then get at it. Idle minds are not a good thing for long periods. They all need space but they also need to keep busy, pushing forward and set examples for one another.

If handled right, this situation could bring the team together. If handled wrong it could literally rip apart the team from the inide out. I'm thinking Bob Stoops has his pulse on this and will move forward at the appropriate time.

Today was the last scheduled practice prior to spring break. They have plenty of time before and after the spring game to get in the allotted number of practices.

I'll take Bob's pulse of the team/decisions regarding same over a bunch of Uncle Rico's on a message board.

to answer your question BW yes everyone is too sensitive in this day and age. No one agrees with what was said and what went on, but they are making WAY too big of deal out of this situation. Its ridiculous. Ill be glad when no one is mentioning it and we are just talking football

"Who am I, or who is anyone, to address someone's level of reaction to something that can be so hurtful?" Bob Stoops said.
Some people can learn something from that statement.
