I see a lot of stuff on Twitter about how OU has a strength and conditioning problem. It’s mainly from TFB people, but I don’t think I agree with this take.
Is the defense soft? Absolutely. Is the offense soft? Absolutely not.
Is a S&C problem evident when Trey Sermon or Kennedy Brooks are running over safeties and linebackers? See KB’s run at the very beginning of the 4th quarter vs WVU.
How about when 140 of KB’s 180 yards are after contact?
Or when Marquise Brown breaks multiple tackles en route to a long touchdown off of a simple crossing route?
Or when Ceedee is downfield blocking and is manhandling his blocker?
Or when Grant Calcaterra takes big hit after big hit and continues to stay in the game?
Or when our offensive line dominates the opponent day in and day out?
You don’t see these problems on offense. You only see them on defense. I don’t think there is a S&C problem at OU. I think there has been a soft culture developed on the defense that a new staff will hopefully change. If these problems persist, then maybe you can look at the S&C staff. But for now, only one side of the ball is exhibiting these problems and I don’t think Wylie and co. can be blamed for this.
