Strange stat for OU last night.....

Portland Ct.
3 passes to the TE's for a total of 10 yards......and three touchdowns....2 for Stogner and one for Willis.
What I liked was how 11 different receivers were involved, with Morris and Rambo leading the way. Without its two best receivers Calcaterra and Lamb, OU never missed a beat even though it had to use short, intermediate passes. OU's longest pass went for 28 yards to Rambo and one went to Miller for 22 yards. All other passes were under 20 yards.

Time of possession is another strange one.
OU 41:11
BU 18:49

I reasoned going into the 2nd half that the Sooners didn't have an answer. But they did. Incredible ball control (minus the turnovers) and determination.
That time of possession stat was perhaps the biggest plus for OU as it kept Baylor's offense on the bench and, more importantly, allowed OU's defense to rest in the 2nd half....and the zero output by Baylor reflects this,

Once upon a time, OU was noted for preventing scores as well producing them....seriously, it really happened !
My favorite defensive efforts were vs Nebraska in 1973 and Florida State in the 2001 Orange Bowl.

As CTOkie reminded us, January 1, 2001 had a shutout for a half. Actually a lot more than a half in that one.
It was actually January 3rd. But we've had several shutouts for a half since. We got two in the 2004 RRR. Texas with their all world quarterback Vince Young, scored 0 in the first half, then turned around and scored 0 after halftime. We won 12-0.

That was the year of an uncertain blending of co DC's, BV, and Bo Pelini. Their 2004 defense shut out Texas for the Horns' last loss, before winning 21 straight. Then at the end of the year, USC put up 55, en route to winning 34 straight. I believe the Sooners have had 12 shutouts in this century including a handful against P5 teams. I know we shut out Texas, A&M, OSU, Iowa State and KState since the national title in 2000. We had three alone in 2009.

Yeah - My bad on the date. I knew it was probably not Jan 1, but I was too lazy to check to see the actual date.
I just always love a chance to bring up that game - for whatever reason.
BTW, I was sick as a dog that night setting in a bar anyway (Houston watch party).

Sooner shutouts in this century.
10-17-15 at KState 55-0
8-31-13 Louisiana Monroe 34-0
10-16-10 Iowa St 52-0
9-12-09 Idaho St 64-0
9-19-10 Tulsa 45-0
11-28-10 Ok State 27-0
9-23-06 Middle Tennessee St 59-0
10-9-04 Texas 12-0
11-20-04 Baylor 35-0
11-8-03 Texas A&M 77-0
8-30-02 Tulsa 37-0
9-14-02 Texas El Paso 68-0
11-3-01 Tulsa 58-0

Who knew that in the last 20 years, that we'd shut out Tulsa three times?

11-8-03 Texas A&M 77-0

Another special game in OU's glorious history.
True Story. A co-worker Texas Aggie was despondent. The 3 games prior to this one, the Ags were blown out by Neb and OSU.
Then struggled to beat hapless KU by 12 points.
He had already lost several friendly bets that year.
When I appeared in his door (looking for my friendly wager), he looked at me and says "Unless you're going to give me 70 points, I'm not making any bet with you:.
We both laughed and I left without a wager.
Monday morning, I popped back in to his office and calmly said "Seventy points wouldn't have been enough".

We actually ran plays in the 2nd half not in the playbook to hold the score down. We got in the l and ran a fullback dive. Bob said on the playback , "we don't have a fullback dive." I think Seth Littrell was envious.

Seems like I remember OU taking a knee near the goal line toward the end of the third quarter.
We didn't score in the 4th quarter, so I think I am right on this one.

The clock may have even run non-stop during the 4th quarter - not positive on this one.
