NORMAN, Okla. – On Sunday, March 2, 2025, the No. 16 Oklahoma Sooners celebrated an exciting weekend at L. Dale Mitchell Park. Oklahoma capped off the weekend by defeating the CSUN Matadors 3-2 in an exciting match, achieving a remarkable three-game series sweep! This victory propelled our Sooners to an impressive 11-0 record, highlighting the resilience and talent that make this team truly special early in the season.

After an impressive 3-0 performance at the Round Rock Classic, where they conquered over tough opponents like Minnesota, No. 7 Oregon State, and No. 2 Virginia, Oklahoma is excited to host CSUN—a scrappy Big West Conference challenger—at The Dale for an early-season homestand. Fans can't get enough of this incredible team, especially as they climbed to an exciting No. 16 in the rankings!

The game started as a pitcher’s duel when the Sooners' Cameron Johnson kicked things off beautifully, dominating the Matadors for the first three innings. But CSUN struck first, grabbing a 2-0 lead by the sixth, putting the Sooners’ resilience to the test. With determination shining through, they turned the game around in the bottom of the sixth. With runners on first and third, Sam Christiansen delivered a clutch sac fly, narrowing the lead to 2-1 and igniting a comeback spirit.

Then, in the seventh inning, Dawson Willis stepped up big time, ripping an RBI double to knot the score at 2-2—pure clutch from the sophomore. Soon after, he crossed home plate thanks to a skilled grounder by Trey Gambill, putting OU ahead 3-2. But Gambill didn’t just make waves with his bat; he also made a fantastic catch in the fourth inning, showcasing his defensive skills. As the tension built, Dylan Crooks stepped onto the mound in the eighth, impressively holding off the Matadors with remarkable composure. As we headed into the ninth, the crowd was electric, and with Crooks and the defense stepping up, the Sooners secured a fantastic 3-2 victory!

Willis, Gambill, Crooks, and Johnson were the stars of the day. Willis’s bat turned the game, Gambill delivered in multiple facets, Crooks showed off his late-game heroics, and Johnson laid the foundation with a stellar start. CSUN hung tough with their early lead, but the Sooners’ depth and determination proved too much.

This sweep isn’t just another series win—it’s a statement. At 11-0, Oklahoma is rolling into their next challenge against Dallas Baptist University, set for March 4th in Dallas, Texas. With the SEC season looming, this squad’s early dominance—and overall chemistry—has fans dreaming big.
