NORMAN, Okla. – The No. 16 Oklahoma Sooners kicked off their weekend series with a commanding 9-0 victory over Cal State Northridge (CSUN) on Friday, February 28, 2025, at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The game, which started at 4 p.m. CT, showcased the Sooners’ dominance on both sides of the ball as they extended their impressive early-season form.

Freshman standout Kyle Branch delivered once again, sparking the offense with his recent hot streak at the plate. Branch, coming off a three-hit performance against Oregon State last week, powered the Sooners with key hits, including a double, as Oklahoma built an early lead. Easton Carmichael, a reliable offensive force, also contributed significantly, adding to the scoring with his consistent bat and bringing in a couple of runs. The Sooners had a big seventh inning, scoring 4 runs and extending their lead to 9-0.

On the mound, junior pitcher Kyson Witherspoon was lights-out, likely anchoring the shutout with a strong six-inning performance. Witherspoon, known for his command, kept the Sooners'’ lineup in check, setting the tone for a bullpen that sealed the 9-0 win. He was able to secure 7 strikeouts on the day with his precise pitching.

This win marks another step in Oklahoma’s stellar homestand, following an 8-game winning streak to open the season. Head coach Skip Johnson’s squad continues to fire on all cylinders, blending veteran leadership with emerging talent as they gear up for SEC play. The series rolls on with game two slated for Saturday, March 1 at 2 p.m. CT, and the finale on Sunday, March 2 at 1 p.m. CT, both at L. Dale Mitchell Park. Sooner Nation is buzzing after this shutout, and the team looks poised to keep the momentum rolling all weekend long.
