The game didn’t start out well for OU as they fell behind 3-0. In the first inning, 2 errors led to the Pokes 1st 2 runs then a solo HR in the 3rd made it 3-0 OSU. The Sooner D played a little sloppy in the first couple of innings.

In the bottom of the 3rd, Pickering continued her hot hitting with a 2 run shot to cut the lead to 3-2. In the 4th Landry loaded the bases with no outs but got out of the inning unscratched which I think really changed the game.

In the bottom half of the 4th Bland put the Sooners ahead with her 2nd HR of the year 5-3 which set the stage for the rest of the game. By the end of 4 OU led 7-3. Ella Parker swung the bat well tonight going 3-3 with a double and 2 RBI and looks to be regaining her hitting form. Pickering barely missed a 2 HR night as she had one hit off the top of the LF wall that bounced back into play.

Garcia drove in the game clinching run rule with 2 outs in the 5th. Next up is Bama Sat , Sun and Mon.

These girls are going to have to build their own championship mindset with the massive roster overhaul. All things considered we're going to have a very good season but 5th consecutive title is going to be a tall task....but not impossible.

The rest of the nation better get them this year because we appear to be set up for another multi-year run.

Bland continues to make a mark on this Sooner softball team as she put OU up 2-1 with another clutch HR that ultimately put OU ahead for good. That HR came with 1 out in the 7th. The Sooners would go on to tack on 3 more to lead 5-1 and 3 outs away from winning the opener in this series.

Bama had no answer as Landry shut them down. OU continues to find ways to win even when it doesn’t look good for them. Bama pitchers pretty much contolled the OU hitters through the first 6 innings.

Kierston Deal continues to struggle on the mound as her ERA in SEC play now sits at
4.14. In todays game vs. Bama she continued to get behind the count and had 3-1, 3-2 counts on almost every hitter. Of the 67 pitches she threw only 37 of those found the strike zone. I know she is talented but it seems her confidence is just not there this season. Wonder how much longer PG continues to give her the ball as a starter. After getting down 3-0 after 2.2 IP PG made the change.

The offense was just dead today but at least the Freshman Barker hit a 7th inning HR to avoid OUs first shutout since 2019 which came against Bama in the WCWS. PG was asked about the offense during an in game interview and said “ What offense, they are showing no energy”. It took a 7th inning rally yesterday to beat Bama and for the second straight day the offense goes scoreless through 6 innings. Gotta give the Bama P credit though she was in full command today.

This offense continues to struggle against SEC pitching as the youth is showing. The conference stats are updated on the OU site and Pickering continues to be the shining light with a 16 game hitting streak and 18 straight games getting on base. Parker just can’t seem to hit SEC pitching sitting at .056.

This OU team is very talented but I think just getting back to OKC for them will be a struggle. The bats have to come around as a team if they hope to get back and not just a bat here and there in the lineup.

Updated stats below and rubber game vs Bama is tomorrow night

OU loses the rubber game in extras 2-1. Another night of futility at the plate for the Sooners as McEnroe-Marinas had the solo HR in the 4th. OU had the bases loaded in the 7th with 1 out and with Pickering at the plate it looked good for OU to take the lead.

She would ground into the 3-2 force out for the 2nd out. The Bama 1B actually made a great play on the high grounder to throw home. Garcia then failed to get the hit and inning over for OU. Bama went down in the bottom half to force extras.

Once again Riley the Bama P continued to look like Sandy Koufax in the game while Landry matched her. That was until the Bama leadoff hitter ended the game on one swing in the bottom of the 8th.

OU is now 10-5 in conference play and while Parker did get 2 hits tonight for OU the team failed to produce runs when the opportunity presented itself. I think there is a cause for concern going forward with remaining series against MSU, Tx at home and UF on the road. The bats just are not coming together but hopefully this is just a short thing and it doesn’t linger to long.
