Sooners land Tavion Thomas, RB, Dayton Ohio.....

Bama, Mich, USC, LSU, and every other school offered this kid

This kid has big time talent. The rumored issue, however, is his grades and wanting to be a package deal with teammate Scates. I believe the Buckeyes backed off of him and chose to pursue Teague and top-rated RB White (of course) and eventually got a commitment from Teague. They now have 3 RB commitments - Gill, Snead, and Teague but this kid could have very easily ended up in Columbus. BIG TIME talent. Had offers from every major FB power. Could be the next great Sooner RB

I watched about half the tape on him. I was underwhelmed.
While he had the benefit of some good blocking and clearly played against some outmatched opponents, he does seem to have great speed, ability to change direction and a bruising running style. I would have liked to see his receiving ability highlighted a bit more. What do you see as his deficiencies?

I guess I just saw it a little differently. He's big, and appears to have good vision, but he doesn't look exceptionally fast to me. And he definitely doesn't look quick. Just looks like a big, lumbering back to me.

With Adams, Anderson, Sermon, Brooks and Sutton already on campus, Pledger and Taylor will be nice additions, though I see at least 1 or 2 of these 7 backs redshirting, perhaps even transferring if they don't get enough playing time.
What I like of Taylor is his ability to move piles of tacklers to get an extra 2-3 yards. He looks like a solid between-the-tackles power back.

Could be, or it could be that they're looking at him at another position. Rivals has him listed as a 3* "Athlete".

But I'll qualify my comments with "I know nothing"... or next to it.

What's going on with Pledger ?

Sounds like commitment was linked to Bob Stoops, and he's just questioning his decision now that Stoops is gone. Nebraska and UCLA are talking to him, and I believe he has a visit scheduled to Nebraska next week.

He's still on schedule to come to the Sooners' July BBQ though.

I am always concerned that the further OU goes beyond its regular geographic recruiting area, the greater the chances are of recruits de-committing.
So commitments by players from either coast, or from places like Ohio, Arizona, North Carolina, etc. can sometimes fall through....or I should say, are more apt to fall through.
