NORMAN, Okla. — The No. 16 Oklahoma Sooners baseball team celebrated another exciting win, triumphing 5-4 against Texas Southern on February 26, 2025, at L. Dale Mitchell Park! This victory, following Tuesday’s impressive 15-4 rout, keeps the team’s undefeated season alive and kicks their record up to an amazing 8-0—marking the best start for the program since 2019. Go Sooners!

What an exciting game for the Sooners! They built a solid 5-0 lead by the seventh inning, but the Tigers made things tense with a late rally, narrowing the gap to just one run in the ninth. However, Oklahoma’s bullpen showcased their resilience, with impressive contributions from Matthew Catalano and freshman Jaden Barfield. The thrilling finish was capped off beautifully by Dylan Crooks, who secured the save in front of the home crowd.

Sam Christiansen and Dayton Tockey really sparked the offense! Christiansen shined as the right fielder, going 2-for-3 with a fantastic RBI single that scored Trey Gambill in the seventh. Tockey added to the excitement with a thrilling double to right-center, bringing Christiansen home and even scoring himself on a wild pitch! Their remarkable performances energized the Sooner attack, providing just enough of a lead to navigate through the challenges!

The real drama came in late. Texas Southern made a fierce comeback, scoring three runs in the eighth inning. Head coach Skip Johnson expertly turned to Barfield with runners on the corners and two outs, and the freshman lefty rose to the occasion, striking out the next batter and keeping the score at 5-3. The Tigers added another run in the ninth, but Crooks stepped onto the mound with confidence, delivering two stunning strikeouts to clinch the save and seal the game.

This win underscores what’s making this Sooners squad special early on: timely hitting and a bullpen that thrives under pressure. After sweeping the Round Rock Classic with wins over top-10 foes like Oregon State and Virginia, then dominating Texas Southern Tuesday, Oklahoma showed they can grind out the close ones too.

Next up, the Sooners welcome Cal State Northridge to Norman starting Friday, February 28, looking to keep the good times rolling at L. Dale Mitchell Park. If this 8-0 start is any indication, OU fans have plenty to cheer about as the team gears up for its SEC debut.
