Samaje Perrine got signed by the Bengals on Tuesday. That puts three Sooner greats in the Cincy backfield - Samaje, Joe MIxon and Rodney Anderson. Not sure what their O-line looks like, but these three should be very productive for the Bengals. They have a very good WR in AJ Green and QBs Andy Dalton and Joe Burrow, so the Bengals may wake up from their decades-long doldrums and be competitive in the NFL again.

Has having an entire backfield from a single college ever happened before in the NFL?

I loved Samaje when he was at OU. He hasn't had the type of career that I thought he would have in the NFL so far. Hopefully the Bengal offensive line shows improvement from last year, if not Burrow will be running for his life.

Hope that all 3 can stay healthy. Samaje and Rodney deserve a huge break from being sidelined.
Sammy P played in 6 games for the bengals without gaining a yard, like 2 years ago? afraid he's on his last legs in the nfl

Not the question you asked, but would be at least as quirky. In 1959 and 1960 the 49er's had four guys in their backfield that used initials as their first name. One of them didn't play much, but they had Y.A. Tittle as starting quarterback, J.D. Smith at running back and R.C. Owens, king of the "alley oop pass" at Flanker and off the bench, R.C. Waters, another running back. Joe "the Jet" Perry was their leading rusher, but he was at the end of his career, winding down.

The 49er's were switching to the NFL's first spread offense. They called it a shotgun, and traded Tittle to the Giants after 1960, where he won three straight Conference titles, all as NFL runner up, in the days before the Super Bowl. Tittle wasn't well suited for the Shotguy, which they didn't use as a long yardage offense, but on every snap. After they traded Tittle, they added another guy with initials, who was there only a year or two, named J.W. Lockett.

Guys with initials was kind of their specialty. The Shotgun went away after the Bears blitzed it into submission. Still working on the same college backfield guys. It's harder to find. Pretty sure the Bengals started Pete Johnson at fullback in front of Archie Griffin for a while. Both played at Ohio State in the early 70's.

Samaje's got plenty of tread on the tires. He's only 24 years old and has only 188 carries in three NFL seasons. Almost all of those carries came with the Redskins, where he averaged barely 3.5 yards per carry. Hopefully the Bengals will have a better O-line and offense that will allow him to make a big contribution next season.

Cool info. I always appreciate your historical posts, sir.

I hope Rodney Anderson remains healthy

I'm a Redskins fan so watched to see how Samje was doing. I thought he was misused and his run blocking was poor. Hope Cincy provides him with a good opportunity. But also hope that Anderson can stay healthy. IMO, he was probably the best back we've had since Peterson and Murray. Without his injuries no telling what kind of numbers he would have put up.
