Sooner men just starting on ESPN 2 against 11th ranked Iowa State

They sold out Lloyd Noble despite many students not being back from the semester break. Iowa State led from shortly after the first tv break when OU led 8-7 until under 8:00. Iowa State is really good. And they have added a juco who was playing like his fifth game and he was really good. They had a great defensive plan. OU stunk from the field in the first half, especially from three. Cousins was 0-6 from the field at halftime but scored 15 in the second half and really had to work to find his stroke. There were really really tight to start. Lots of problems with fundamentals.

Iowa State dragged a little at the end of both halves. They were a little short of depth after two important injuries. OU was up two, when Iowa State inbounded in the back court and got the ball to Niang. We doubled him and he got it to a really good three shooter for an open look, but he missed. The rebound was knocked out of bounds. We were inbounding in the backcourt with under seven seconds left when they fouled Buddy and he nailed both free throws to go up four..

Niang was brilliant for ISU, but he missed the front end of a one and one with maybe five minutes left that was part of the Sooners from going down five to up six or something similar. He finished with 29 points. They doubled Hield a lot, but we couldn't make them pay for it. But Buddy made several terrific drives to get it going. He was in the high 20s.

And Spangler had a double double, despite having to go to the dressing room midway through the second, after knee to knee contact while setting a screen. He could barely walk. But he came back and finished the game. Walker played a lot, more than Manyang. I don't think Manyang played in the second half, though he was a force with three or four blocked shots in the first half.

That was quite a game.

For us to win it all, we need our backups to Spangler and Litton to learn how to score...and Litton needs to keep improving in this area. Cold shooting from the outside combined with foul trouble from our bigs will end our season in the Big Dance if not. But this is the best team we've had since Billy Ball.

Only made 3 outside shots in the 1st half, if we would've hit 50% like we normally do (did better than that in the 2nd half), we would've blown them out. ISU a very good offense, thank goodness they don't have much of a defense or we would've been looking at our first loss. Even though we were down most of the night, I never felt worried because I knew we would start hitting shots eventually. Now, playing Kansas on the road will be a completely different story!

Frogs with the greatest comeback in Bowl history. Or a tie for it, depending on who you listened to. Mack was the analyst. Did a good job.

.. It tied TTech against Minnesota when Leach was there. I remember seeing the end of that. And this

I do dig this team, but I do think the 2002 squad was at least equal to this one. OU was 1 Quannas White sprained ankle from the NC that year, in my opinion.

Spangler had a double-double so he was ok. It was Cousins that could not hit from anywhere. Kruger will get in trouble down the schedule with not calling a timeout to sort this team out when they go on a bad run. Cousins missed a few simple layups before hitting a 3 in the 2nd half.

How can I reach you with a private message?

Look at the upper right hand corner of the page. The envelope logo just to the right of your handle. Click that and you will have the option that says START A NEW CONVERSATION. In the PARTICIPANTS window, type the names of everyone you want in the conversation besides yourself. Then they require a title just like a new post. Then you also have to type something in the message window.

Couldn't get it to work, but I attend a monthly alumni group made up of ex OU football players. Message me if you are interested in attending. You would recognize almost all of the names of the ex players that attend.
