*Mayfield is the best example to me of how recruiting is such an inexact science. No one recruited him. He had a great freshman year at Tech as a walk-on. He transferred to OU a bit under the radar and has had everything to do with the current 8-1 record, in fairness to Perine, Shepard and others.....and his mobility has served to make the offensive line seem better than it really is, even though it has improved since October. I would like to see the coaches use Mayfield as a recruiting template for future quarterback recruits. Good luck with that !
*It was good to see so much aggressiveness and intensity last night and as far as I'm concerned, it was long overdue. But these players have to stop committing personal fouls resulting in stupid penalties. There can be aggressive play without cheap hits.
*Mayfield could run any offense that OU has ever employed, even Switzer's wishbone. He won't put up gaudy passing numbers or may not win a Heisman Trophy, but his ability to react in an instant to what the defenders are doing and to read opposing defenses as he is about to take the snap is unlike any quarterback I have seen at OU. Some OU QBs were better passers, some were better runners, but no Oklahoma QB that I recall presented such a lethal balance of both. His composure is perhaps his greatest quality.
*The Texas loss a month ago really is hard to believe or accept. While the loss served as a wake-up call to the players to play better....much better....it may ultimately cost the team from a chance to achieve its 8th national championship, even with wins vs TCU and OSU. The ESPN royalty loves Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson and Notre Dame. OU must win out and get some help from other teams as I see it.
*It might be good for 3rd team QB Cody Thomas to stick around when both Mayfield and Knight have completed their careers at OU after next season. I know Austin Kendall is an OU commitment for the 2016 class, but how good he will be is pure speculation now. I will admit that I believe Thomas will transfer after this year due to lack of playing time...and I would not blame him one bit.
