*Mayfield is the best example to me of how recruiting is such an inexact science. No one recruited him. He had a great freshman year at Tech as a walk-on. He transferred to OU a bit under the radar and has had everything to do with the current 8-1 record, in fairness to Perine, Shepard and others.....and his mobility has served to make the offensive line seem better than it really is, even though it has improved since October. I would like to see the coaches use Mayfield as a recruiting template for future quarterback recruits. Good luck with that !
*It was good to see so much aggressiveness and intensity last night and as far as I'm concerned, it was long overdue. But these players have to stop committing personal fouls resulting in stupid penalties. There can be aggressive play without cheap hits.
*Mayfield could run any offense that OU has ever employed, even Switzer's wishbone. He won't put up gaudy passing numbers or may not win a Heisman Trophy, but his ability to react in an instant to what the defenders are doing and to read opposing defenses as he is about to take the snap is unlike any quarterback I have seen at OU. Some OU QBs were better passers, some were better runners, but no Oklahoma QB that I recall presented such a lethal balance of both. His composure is perhaps his greatest quality.
*The Texas loss a month ago really is hard to believe or accept. While the loss served as a wake-up call to the players to play better....much better....it may ultimately cost the team from a chance to achieve its 8th national championship, even with wins vs TCU and OSU. The ESPN royalty loves Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson and Notre Dame. OU must win out and get some help from other teams as I see it.
*It might be good for 3rd team QB Cody Thomas to stick around when both Mayfield and Knight have completed their careers at OU after next season. I know Austin Kendall is an OU commitment for the 2016 class, but how good he will be is pure speculation now. I will admit that I believe Thomas will transfer after this year due to lack of playing time...and I would not blame him one bit.

I would rather have a smart/heady QB and Baker is a stronger more athletic Colt McCoy, IMO. He is a leader. JT Barrett is the same way at theOSU. Hope ND goes down to Stanford and OU wins out!!! BOOMER!!!

Welcome back CT!!! It's truly great to see you back on here man!!

And great post. Though I can think of one OU QB that possessed such a lethal balance of both running and passing just like Baker. Jason White before his knee injuries. ;)

Let's wait and see how the playoff poll turns out for OU on Tuesday. Here is what Herbstreit tweeted this morning,

So at least that's great news that OU's win last night has at least one person impressed to the point of moving ND down and OU up.

Just win out and go 11-1, with ND loss, OU is in!!! OU could have scored again, but showed class. QB recruiting, let's go for leadership, mobility and arm, not just NFL talent.

It will be interesting to see how much importance the committee is going to put on common opponents.

Is everyone here assuming the worst. The best possible thing that could happen, would be for Stanford to beat ND. But there are other scenarios.

I figure Bama will run the table, but it's not a certainty. Auburn could do to them what OSU did to OU in 2001. Maybe a better possibility is that Florida State beats Florida, but then the Gators upset Bama for the conference title. No way a two loss SEC team goes over an 11-1 OU team. The third best team in the SEC in terms of how they're playing right now, is Arkansas. And they lost at home to Texas Tech.

If Michigan upsets Ohio State in Ann Arbor, that would do it.

Clemson is really good, but UNC could make things interesting.

Don't assume a win out by any of the teams ranked ahead of us. By Tuesday, we'll be seventh or sixth or fifth. I think it's possible to be fourth.

OU has something that only Clemson can match up with. A dynamic quarterback. Somebody is going to figure it it.

One caution. It ain't automatic that we win next week. This becomes the worst kind of trap game, because TCU can play. They looked awful after the letdown and losing Doctson and then their quarterback. But they could easily come into Norman and make everybody sad if the Sooners have a letdown. This is a lot like the RRR.

TCU pounded Texas and the Sooners came in flat. They will have a need for some serious get it back together to beat a quality team with a quality coach.

But right now, I think OSU whomps Baylor and OU handles TCU and Bedlam decides a playoff spot. And the rest of the karma gets fixed.

No one has "assumed" anything.

Looks as though we do have a door to the play-offs, but the keys to that door are in the Pokes' Pocket...

I still think all things being equal, the CFP committee would prefer to have OU instead of Notre Dame if Clemson is still ranked #1 and the #4 spot is between two one loss teams, OU and ND. Stanford losing helped lessen the rah rah for a victorious ND since Stanford now has 2 losses....plus a Clemson - ND rematch would be a bummer, whereas a Clemson - OU rematch (last year's bowl) might amp up the playoff story quite a bit more. Politics will come into play, IMO. Just hope it's not the ND political kind. OU still has star power especially coming from a #19 preseason ranking and a horrible loss to Texas only to win out against three teams that were ranked in the top five at one time or another this season.

Again....nothing matters unless the Sooners win out. I'm not assuming any wins, but I like our chances better now than any other time this season. I hope we are underdogs the rest the way this season no matter what. Bob seems to be his best as an underdog. And, we need Bob to be at this best. I think he will be.
