in your big rivalry game? That is a head scratcher. Mayfield was 20-28 for 211and no ints with a qbr of 36??? Texas ran for over 300 yards and jumped out to a 14 point lead. Maybe ball control kept your offense out of synch?

We pulled a no show. How that can happen in our biggest rivalry game I'll never know. However, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

OU was beaten mentally before they even stepped into the stadium. That's the effect of when your players are shown over 100 times in the week before the game, footage of a game when Texas beat OU. When you mentally reinforce losing, then why is it any surprise when that's the result you get on the field?

I think it had more to do with everyone filling up all media with noise that the helpless longhorns were going to get buttslammed by the sooners.

No one gave the horns a chance. Everyone was talking about how Strong had lost the team and was on his way out.

The Horns fed off the hate, and beat an OU squad that bit too hard on how easy it was going to be.

Sorry, but what the hell are you talking about?

They stuffed our run and blitzed like there was no tomorrow. We were in countless 3rd and long situations and conveted maybe one third down the entire game. They only threw about a dozen passes, ran about 50 times, averaging about 4-5 yards per carry and their running QB made about a dozen first downs on designed QB run plays. They ate up the clock, kept our O on the bench and wore down our D in the second half. And I think we had a couple of turnovers that led directly to horn TDs.

How did Virginia Tech beat Ohio State early in 2014 at Ohio State ?
How did OU lose to OSU in 2001....or Colorado in 2007....or Texas Tech in 2011or Texas in 2013 ?
Upsets happen.

That STATION article nails it, at least from an X's and O'standpoint. I also think the pre-game coverage of Texas and how terrible they were and which was reflected in the point spread was a huge factor. We are a pretty young team and we bought into the hype that we would slaughter Texas. This is a rivalry game like no other and we simply weren't ready to play.

Who gives a sh!t, ou is in the playoffs. And 90% of this board said it OU wins out all is forget about the Texas game. I'm sure the negative fans that live on this board didn't think OU could win out. Let it go you can't change it or go back and replay it. OU is playing for a championship....enjoy it Sooner fans.

in depth article you guys have a talented team. It should be a very good game. I am confident as I am sure you guys are as well. Can't wait for kickoff. Would like to play you guys a home and home series. Rumor is Auburn wants to weasel out of our first game next year even though they are the home team. Farking sec...

The answer is in this nice read. Lots of changes after that game. You could say we're a different team now. If you haven't seen much Oklahoma football this year, this is probably the best and most succinct read you could make to understand. If you want.

That's not surprising really. Auburn fans are weasels...no doubt their AD is too.

When we were chosen over them to play the Natty title game they came here like roaches...bagging on us for something a bunch of computers had decided...they are idiots.

Upsets by Horns in the RRS not that usual. By my long toothed count about the 13th time since '58 that OU had the better, and favored team, and lost ('63, '67, '77, '79, '89-'92, '99, '06, '08, '13) although the UT teams in '63 and '77 played for the NC and great years.

Texass, was the better team and beat us up. They whipped us at the line and stuffed it down our throats running the ball. It woke us up but on that day, Texass played better football.

Have to guard against over confidence in any sport.

1. The OU Texas rivalry game more than any other game on the schedule is about momentum. Once Texas went up 2 TDS it didn't matter who was 1 and 4 and who was undefeated.

2. That momentum was given to Texas with a defense that lost focus on the QB run. Running game of Texas neutralized Striker as an elite pass rusher and OUs best backer against the run was Bond out with injury. They made adjustments but it was too late because it gave Texas confidence. No reason why OU shouldn't have been ready for that qb run from the get go. Also no Will Johnson yet as the best in space tackler vs slot receivers and reciever screens.

3. Down 7 to nothing OU fumbled kickoff return. It became 14 to nothing when our defense could not fall on shortly following texas fumble in the end zone.

4. Offense out of sink with baker taking so many sacks and short gains. Baker had 18 carries minus 5 yds. Game plan failed to give Perine a chance to get going and chance to get I to short yardage 3rd downs. 10 carries for Perine and 6 for Mixon was a mistake with how poorly the online was protecting Mayfield. Also needed short passing game or TE instead of taking so much time in the pocket. Online has evolved greatly but I still worry about our tendency to have to establish the pass before we run.
