Siebert

I think that would actually be quite a big loss if something happened to where he didn't come back. He is really a great all around kicker

I read somewhere that Siebert would not be punting this season to lighten his load and prevent the fatigue that he had in 2016.
Reeves Mundschau was recruited to share kicking chores with Siebert. He is said to be a very good punter.

I read somewhere that it is an administrative/academic issue. No big deal and expected to be cleared up soon.

Thats good to hear and if he is not punting this season also maybe he will become a more dependable FG kicker.

He has been somewhat eratic at times on those FGs.

This article states that he is expected to once again handle both the FG and punting duties. Seems like his FG kicking got worse as the season progressed.

FG kickers are very important to a team's success

Michael Hunnicutt (remember him) in his senior year turned my hair grey and got me acid reflux when he got the yips as he missed chip shot field goals. He missed a 19 yard FG by a mile vs. KSU to win. The ball immediately hooked left 15 feet to the left of the goal posts

.I was seated 30 rows up behind the goal posts in the Kansas State game and the crowd gasped as Hunnicutt missed badly the 19 yard FG to win after earlier he had an extra point blocked to tie as he kicked it very low. OU lost this game 31-30

He was considered OU's best FG kicker ever and one of the nation's best until the yips got him in his senior year.

Remember Trey DiCarlo? Guy turned into a head case. Need I mention Jimmy Stevens?

There's no worse way to leave a sure win on the field than to lose that way

Exactly. His extra point to tie never had a chance as his blocked kick was kicked very low.

Then OU rallied back inside the KSU 10 yard line and at the end of the game Hunnicutt has a chip shot 19 yarder to win. Hunnicutt immediately hooked the kick 15 feet left of the goal posts way off line.

Hunnicutt had two opportunities the extra point and the short FG and both failed

It was a very painful loss instead of a sure win.

I remember both.

Stevens in the game at Florida State on the road Stevens came in to kick a very short game clinching FG with OU up by 7.
Stevens kicked the ugliest kick I have ever seen but the dying quail barely cleared the uprights to give OU the 10 point win.

That kick was so ugly that I think that was the last FG Jimmy Stevens ever kicked at OU.
Even thought that kick was barely good Stevens was forever benched

Need I mention the Uwe von Schamanns? Thank Goodness for those Rare Birds...The Exceptions...NOT the Rules...

Tim Lasher was pretty darn good as well. Problem is, so many of these guys now are too obsessed with kicking a 60 yard field goal in practice so they can put it on youtube. In real game situations they choke

I don't understand it either. They'll kick 200 times in a row on the sidelines just before a game kick to warm-up. I don't get how a couple extra kicks a game wears on them.

Maybe it's a muscle-memory confusion thing between punting and kicking - two different motions.

This fatigue has been discussed by the coaches, the media and Siebert himself many times since the end of last season, based on his kicking woes last season. The 60 yard field goals Siebert kicked in practices did not prevent him from missing every field goal from over 39 yards during the season.
Reeves Mundschau has been recruited to possibly take some of the load off Siebert, especially since he is a great punter. Mundschau hit on all his extra point and field goal kicks last year and his punts are high hanging ones.
Siebert is a good kicker.....maybe Mundschau's presence will make him a better kicker.

Yes, the word "fatigue" has been used if that's considered discussion. Regardless, I don't understand it, and I won't until it's really explained to me. Just because it's hard for me to believe, doesn't mean I'm saying they're wrong.

Consider this: how many football teams in CFB or the NFL have one kicker to do all of the extra points, field goals, kick offs and punting ?
Very few.
Siebert hinted of fatigue late in the 2015 season, his freshman year. He did the same last year.
Fatigue for a kicker is both both mental and physical. A game's result can be lost by a missed field goal, or a short kickoff or a shanked punt and even a missed extra point. As a result, a kicking specialist who loses his confidence, on top of being fatigued, is a major problem.

The guy is 50% on the year (2 of 4). Last year he missed a point blank FG vs Ohio State on our opening drive, helping to send the team on a downward spiral. Why Riley didn't go for it on 4th and 4 vs. ISU when it was too short to punt and obviously too long for Siebert is beyond disappointing, especially considering how bad our D is (like 3 points was going to win this thing).

I don't get the infatuation with Siebert - he's mediocre to pointless when its money time; moving on to the next in line is the best move for the future of our program.
