SIAP: Anderson will have to redshirt.

Ankle broken. Out for the year.

Thanks for sharing. Was afraid of this when he was carted off the field with the temporary splint on his leg. I know that Bob is very guarded on his player's health, so I was wondering when we'd get word on Anderson's injury. Bummer.

I actually think this is good news, compared to what I feared. I was worried it was an achilles tendon. That would be career threatening for a running back. It was a bone in the ankle that isn't weight bearing. The surgery was done Sunday.

He was a factor on special teams and it was just a fluke, when his teammate rolled over his foot at an awkward angle.

THankfully this is a position that we are deep in. (fingers crossed everyone else stays healthy) A redshirt year won't be bad for him and Ross might get some carries as a result. Hate to see anyone get hurt but we may look at this in a couple years as a good thing when he has eligiblity left.

I'm still not sure about the regular redshirt rules. It seems way in the past you could play so many quarters, but it changed. I think if you see the field, the shirt is blown. Someone will know, or I'll have to google............

After playing one minute (or one second) you can not get a regular redshirt for the current year.
The medical is always assumed (as it is in this case), even though, technically, you can't apply for it until eligibility is used up.
This case would be as close to automatic as you can get.
If he is good enough to jump to the Show after three more years (or two), the Medical RS is a moot issue.

Medical Redshirt (waiver) is available for season ending injuries and less than 30% of participation in competition. None of that participation can be after mid-season.
For a 12 game season, then you would not be able to participate after halftime of the 4th game (assuming all of your participation is from the season start and on).
