Short list

He'll promote McNeil and two years later they both get fired

Get Derek Jones, he did a better job against Army and Baylor

World class athletes...not seeing it Lincoln (or Jack In Box). We are the paper tiger. Texas Tech East. You have one last drive to stop. You can’t stop jack crap. Find a new profession Jack In Box...used car salesman or ice cream man.

Who can we get. Whoever comes in will want to bring some of his own people. LR needs to go do some in home with the committed defensive players. Stoops, Kish, McNeil and Cooks need to go

Bo Pelini is at Youngstown St, would probably love to come back to big time football if he’s interested in giving up HC duties. His Nebraska payout ends February 2019 and Youngstown will have to start actually paying him after that. Might be perfect timing.

3rd and long 5 times and even the officials called it after the 4th time that Stoops just kept sitting back with umbrella coverage giving them easy first downs. We finally pressured him on 3rd and long and he panicked and threw it away.

LR is swimming in deep water with a lead weight around his neck (MS) and it will take him down.

Whether it’s talent. (recruiting on coaches) Scheme on coaches. Or player development it’s on our defensive coaches!!! So sick of listening to people like Al and Jim Stoops on the animal act like this is the best OU can do!! Would Mike even still be here if his last name wasn’t stoops?

Dline is average
LB are decent but not great
DB are fair
Safeties are below average to bad

Scheme is weak
Fundamentals are below average
Texas OL has been weak this year but today they looked pretty good against our Line. I wish to God we'd go back to running a true 4-3 or 4-2-5 with true DE's instead of Jack lb's that are just too small to hold the edges Imo. We got zero pressure on Ehlinger until Stoops decided to blitz and then I don't recall him really going back to it.What I'd give to have a few Jeremy Beal's, Dan Cody's or Austin English's again.

I don't know what the problem is on D, I don't really know enough about football defense to offer an intelligent opinion.

But I do know that I was embarrassed to watch the OU defense today.

They gave up 48 points to a team that last week scored 10 against lowly K-State.

And, I think I've seen enough to conclude that there is something terribly, terribly wrong with what OU is doing on that side of the ball, and something needs to change.

You're wrong. Sorry.

Bledsoe, Gallimore, Murray, Perkins, Brown, Bookie are all very talented. We are handcuffing them with the dumbest scheme I've ever seen.

The verdict is still out on Bookie. He rarely makes a play and misses a ton of tackles. He may just be too small to be able to tackle guys at this level. Today he totally fell for the ball fake and let the QB run right about him. So far I'm disappointed in the guy

Bledsoe and Galimore are decent to average. Perkins is way to young, he shows promise. Brown is good but at 5'9 5'10 to small, to be elite or great. Bookie at 5'8 and playing safety is the biggest travesty maybe in all of College football and just might be the worst tackler outside of Norwood. He's young but should be playing CB.
Murray is a good player, he is the only player that I would call good. Brown has shown he plays bigger then he is, but nothing elite. Norwood is the worst tackler and Bolton doesn't make a lot of mistakes but anything over 4 steps, he usually takes a bad or below average angle. Plus he's nothing more then a slow safety.
I don't believe we have 1, DB/CB that is 6'0 barefoot

The issues are as follows.

4 man fronts are not typically 2 or 3 real knuckle in the ground Dlineman. It's 4 Dlineman, period. Give me those 260lbs+ DE and 290-330 DT and NG
Get some real deal DE. Recruit LB that can cover TE and screens but can take on Olinemen. That's 230-250lbs. Terry is our biggest LB
We play and recruit 70% slow safeties to play LB.
We have no real size at DB, way to many 5'9 but measure 5'10 in cleats. Recruit some 6'0 with good hips instead of 5'9 with great hips.
We have nothing at safety. Bookie at 5'8 185lbs is not a safety

Realize, 6'1-6'3 200- 210lbs is the right size to play safety.
DE needs to be 240-290lbs
LB need to 230-250lbs with one smaller but 220-230lbs

Doubt we can get, Dave Doeren
Doubtful Manny Diaz, he's grown a lot the last few years.Enjoys Miami
Bud Foster
Bob Shoop
John Chavis

Hey man I'm right there with you on the scheme. People keep saying it's a 4 man front. No, not really. I've been screaming for the true 4-2-5 for years.

But Mike's scheme makes good players look average. Our CBs don't attempt to find the ball. Rarely are the beat in coverage, they just can't find the ball. We let massive WRs have career days before we decide to give the DB some help. Our defensive players regress every year short of a handful.

The 3-4 jack hybrid nickel defense is a joke, and then add in that Mike calls games to not get beat over the top and opposing offenses just chunk play us down the field on long drives till the defense is gassed and break in the red zone.

Think about Julian Wilson snapping in 2014. I think something like that is coming.

Not really.
Dline the talent is average
LB average
DB below average but a few young. And they are small
S, below average and thin.
Big XII teams and where they rank nationally in total defense....

8. TCU
19. WVU
31. Iowa State
76. Texas
84. Texas Tech
90. OSU
96. Kansas
104. Baylor
108. OU
109. KSU

So when you say the talent just isn't there. Does that mean you actually think the rest of the Big XII (other than KSU) has better defensive talent than OU??? Check recruiting classes for the last handful of years, and OU has out-recruited the rest of the Big XII BY A MILE for defensive players.

OU defensively ranked behind Kansas, Texas Tech and Baylor. Good God !

Both, scheme and talent.

Bobo Stoops and his still bend but don't break. Hey,we are DEAD LAST, in Red Zone D.

As pointed out. DE/Jack Hybrid sucks!
LB Bolton is a slow safety
DB are small, some very small
Safety, we suck and are pencil thin. I think we have 2 true safety on campus and both are below average, skill and talent. Barnes I had a lot of hope but he hasn't shown. Plus Bookie at 5'8 185lbs is not a safety and he is the 2nd worst tackler on the team.

Dline. We need a true NG, DT and true DE's . Mann did get mauled a few plays. Hell he was abused for that Ingram run.
LB we need 230+lbs and one 220lbs. No 210lbs slow ass safeties, that cannot take on an OT arm.
DB's can we get a few 6'0 footers?
Safety: 6'0-6'3, 195-210lbs

Motley, Broles and Brown are all pretty good. Motley just gets the go route, with a 6'4+ WR, more then anyone else. He's in what I would call 85% good position. But he's not able to challenge, for the ball. ie his back is turned but step for step, same with Brown. Broiles, typically gets the slot and his cover skills are strong for a RS freshman. The issue is safety help and it's not there.
Oline, Evans got whipped on 2 of Murray sacks and one was to a true freshman safety. If I'm going to call out players, Evans was the donkey on Oline, yesterday. Powers makes all the difference at guard, when he's in the line, is solid.
