Stoops puts together historically bad Sooner defense in 2017. With even a marginally serviceable defense OU beats Georgia and plays Bama for the NC.
OU likely beats Bama but Hurts still hangs 30+ on OU. Tua never sees the field and Bama goes into 2018 with Hurts as its QB (since they made the NC game and managed to score 30+ with him as QB against OU).
Instead OU loses to Georgia (thanks Mike) and Georgia's defense stonewalls Hurts forcing Tua into the game and turning Bama into what appears to be an all-time great team in 2018.
So I blame Stoops for OU not winning the 2017 NC, giving Bama the 2017 NC and positioning them well for the 2018 title. Also may cost Kyler the Heisman Trophy.
