He was one of a kind. RIP, Big John.
Didn't like him much when he coached the Raiders but he and Pat Summerall were perhaps the greatest NFL broadcast tandem ever.
He changed the way we all enjoyed watching football. RIP big guy.
Madden was one of the all-time greats, both coaching and doing color commentary. Very entertaining and insightful. He leaves behind a great legacy.
Summerall was really good too, but I couldn't tell the difference between Summerall in the Playstation version of EA Sports Madden football and real-life. I consider Pat to be the greatest video game play-by-play guy of all-time. I remember in the early versions, you could deliberately break the leg of an opposing player and an ambulance would come out on the field. No matter how often you did it, Summerall would pipe up, saying: “Oh no, there’s a man down.”
