So much for wanting night games I guess.

“We have one of the great fanbases in America and when it’s rockin’ in there, does our team feel that? Hell yeah they do. And when it’s not, do they feel that? Hell yeah they do. Yep.”

So its the fans fault the D played like shit? Its the fans fault the offense turned into Baylors offense in the second half? Get out of here with those bullshit excuses. If the players need fans to motivate them on the football field then we are in trouble.

I am not sure why exactly a stadium half way clears out by halftime. Some attrition sure, but this team needs our support as this was the second to last home game. Kind of a buzzkill. Seems like student section is getting soft and leaving early too...a snowflake entitlement thing?

LR was just answering a question he was asked point blank. People around here complain when they don't believe he is forthcoming with his answers. So are we now going to complain when he is.

He was unhappy about the crowd disappearance. I think for him, it was more about his bragging to recruits about OUr great fan base. Then they behave like fans in LaLa Land. Leave early and avoid the traffic.

They don't even leave early in Austin.

They leave early everywhere when a team is pouring it on; see Alabama. They don't even show up in Austin. The recruits were there when OU raced out to a 3 touchdown lead, the problem was the team failed to finish. The crowd - or - the decrease in the size of the crowd only became a topic when the game became uncomfortably close.

Nobody with a 3 digit IQ is saying that!

But is a fact of basic human nature that people in this age group can be motivated to higher levels of play by a partisan home crowd. Noise can also be disruptive to the visitors. Vegas sets lines in part based on a home crowd. It's real!

Everyone knows that OU's football program needs improvements in several areas but it would be very naive at best to not understand that OU's home crowd should be delivering a better product. That includes fans giving vocal support until the final snap.

Well.... it WAS 42-21 at the end of the 3rd quarter which was probably around 10:30-11:00p at night. And it WAS against Iowa State which had absolutely zero pre-game talk about it being a possible competition. And it WAS after a bye week which always kills some football fan momentum. And it WAS the student section that the TV cameras point towards, and we all know what college students would rather be doing at 11p on a Saturday night EVEN if they are HUGE OU football fans. Priorities.

I mean, who could even fathom seeing a 20-0 4th quarter box score against the Sooners? I don't care if it was Alabama, Ohio State, or Clemson. The finish to that game was ludicrous.

I was at the game until the very end. It was a lot more than just students leaving early and by a lot.

Anyone who understands this OU defense should understand that against a decent team....
its not over until its over.

i am not one that leaves till the clock hits zero but not every fan is like that. Young people have other priorities in their life than staying around for a game they feel is in the bag. I don’t condemn those that do leave early because its simply not my place.

i have never played any sport where the crowd or lack of a crowd influence the way I played. I just don’t buy into the theory a crowd can make you play better. As an athlete you should always have the drive to do your best no matter the circumstances. Even today at 60 when I play a sport even if its racquetball my drive is from my desire not to lose.

But the reality is that a loud home crowd does have an influence....at least according to many dozens of coaches, players and Vegas.

Hell I almost quit watching it on tv myself when we got ugly on both sides of the ball. Its called not being entertained and finding something else to do instead of letting my already high blood pressure to get higher.
Riley's 3rd quarters are pretty boring.

When you go on the road to Manhattan, and the crowd noise is a factor in keeping you from being as efficient on offense as you'd like to be.

Then in an identical situation, your crowd goes home with a lesser margin. It's at least a little discouraging. But again, Lincoln didn't go looking for the crowd to "blame." He was asked a reasonable question, and he responded honestly. If that pisses Sooner fans off, then that's on the specific offended fans, Not LR.

OU fans have higher standards than kstate fans. After winning so much its just hard for people to get excited about beating Iowa state. Apparently the players seem to feel the same

Well in the end it’s not really worth arguing over as I have had this discussion with friends and some think it does and others not. It would be interesting to see a study done where players are asked how much effect it has on them when playing.

I think one of the issues is that as our maturity level increases our composure generally increases and that some players are impacted a lot more than others by a loud crowd. This is why I believe the NFL game isn't as impacted by a loud crowd.

Even if you were not an athlete who was impacted in either direction many good coaches have seen enough to know that noise impacts this age group. So even nif we are playing like crap, why not stay resilient, give them the benefit of doubt, stay and support the program. We need to make a positive impression on the players we are recruiting. They are the key to a better future.

Remember we are dealing with a snowflake generation who in to many cases look for reasons to be offended and thus distracted....this is already an age group that is already easy to distract...

As an adult who is 40 years removed from this age group people my age tend to forget what its like to be of college age.

I have learned that its usually best to trust what successful coaches say about something like this.
