Rick Pitino axed from Louisville - Breaking....

Not surprising, with Pitino its one scandal after another. Real lucky he was not fired after having sex with that woman in a Restaurant, the one that later tried to extort money from him, the one he gave 3,000 to so she could get an abortion. Not sure if he is guilty in this scandal yet and if not it happened on his watch. He said he knew nothing about the sex for play scandal a while back but its hard to believe he knew nothing about that or this.

I heard one reporter say it may be time to pay College Athletes. That would not stop the greed, sports is big business and big money and there would be those that would still offer players more money under the table to come to their School. Unfortunately greed and corruption in sports is here to stay.

Greed and sports has always been around since the dawn of human civilization. That does not limit my desire for collegiate sports to be scholastic in orientation. The reason this stuff has gone on for so long is that everybody looks the other way and tells themselves "everybody else is doing it" and "if we don't somebody else will." College basketball (primarily because of it's uniqueness) has oriented itself to be a feeder lessor league for the NBA. In reality the NBA only has 450 players on the roster, only drafting 60 players per year with about half of those playing in Europe. The rest do not have a prayer but nevertheless a dream. Yet many colleges are treating their college athletes like mere chattel to be used for their own prestige and monetary gain. I say give each player the cost of attendance, and do away with the "one and done rule." Place college athletics in the place it ought to be - a place where kids go to get an education and not just to play ball. Make great citizens out of them and do the right thing by them. Those with exceptional skills ought to go the NBA feeder leagues - if they don't make it then perhaps allow them to matriculate back in to school to get that degree while on scholarship. There is a way to clean much of the graft in college sports, You just have to have willing participants to do it.

What a weasel in the hen house. Somebody better think long and hard before bringing him on board. No wonder U Kentucky hates that cheater program.

I'm not a big fan of Calipari's method either, but I have to give it to him for being inventive and (possibly) not requiring bribes. Instead, he just promises them starting positions immediately, honors that promise, and then encourages/helps them to move on to the NBA.

It's intentional circumvention of academics, but at least it's not cheating.
