I don't know if any of you knew this man, but he is from my home town and I've known him since I was a teen. The OU players referred to him as "chief". You may have noticed him on the sidelines for many decades and never knew who he was or why he was there. He was always there for support, water, injuries, etc. He was also a fixture at many track meets over the years. Some of which I was a participant. Lets all pay tribute to a long time great sooner Rich Leitka from Wewoka. He passed away this past Friday.

My dad was born in Dewey and moved to Wewoka when he was 5 years old then graduated from Wewoka HS in 1937. His father-my grandfather- taught at Wewoka HS.
My grandmother taught grade school there and had Sooner-to-be Thurman Pitchlynn as one of her students.
I spent many summers in Wewoka during my childhood. Many great memories there for me.

It's a small world. Wewoka has a rich history for being such a small town

I am from Wewoka as well, I knew Richmond Well. He was as good of a human being as anyone I have ever met. I last saw him about two months ago, it had been several years and I’m grateful we got to catch up. He touched MANY lives over the years and will be missed.

Dang. We lost a great one. I'm not sure if your bother ever told you, but I worked with Chief from the day I started in Norman until he "retired." One of the most amazing people I've ever worked with. I have no idea how, but he managed to get 28 hours out of every day. You could literally think about asking for his help and he would volunteer it before it could leave your mouth. He was what every mentor should aspire to be.

RIP Rich.

Sorry that this is Off Topic, but couldn't pass up this opportunity to ask those of you who may know...Isn't Wewoka the Home Town of Carol Lynn Russell, who was married to OU Player Dennit Morris, 'back in Bud's Days'? If so, anyone know her whereabouts? Thanks in advance for any info'...
