OFFENSE:
QB: Dillon Gabriel - 77 - Thought he did pretty well considering the consistent pressure he was under.
RB: Jovantae Barnes - 84 - Loved the way he ran, very tough and continues to show that great burst.
WR: Drake Stoops - 70 - Not his greatest performance but didn't get a lot of looks either.
WR: Marvin Mims - 85 - Man when he showed up in the game, he did it in a huge way but sure feels like there could have been more for him.
WR: Jalil Farooq - 83 - He got more touches in the second half and suddenly the offense started finding more success?
TE: Brayden Willis- 86 - Made some big plays and did a good job helping the Sooners offense in some tough spots.
OT: Jacob Sexton - N/A -
OG: Savion Byrd - 65 - Highs and lows, ALL night, had some big-time blocks and some bad mistakes.
C: Robert Congel - 60 - Snaps were, again, awful.
OG: McKade Mettauer - 50 - The most veteran guy on the line had some really rough moments.
OT: Tyler Guyton - 68 - I really thought we'd see a bigger step forward than this.
Offensive Average: 72.8 (728)
DEFENSE:
DE: Jonah Laulu - N/A - Man, did he get hurt? I can't say I saw him all night after starting.
NT: Isaiah Coe - 78 - Thought he had some really solid moments, about the only DL I saw making plays.
DT: Jordan Kelley- 65 - Thought he got a little aggressive and out of position at times.
DE: Ethan Downs - 60 - Saw Downs working and actually closed off a few angles in the run game but very little pressure.
LB: Danny Stutsman - 87 - I'm ready to take the heat, I though the guy played a hell of a game and was the lone consistent playmaker.
LB: David Ugwoegbu - 50 - Ugwoegbu continues to make the basic play but he if he's isolated, it's a problem.
CH: DaShaun White - 50 - One of his worst games of the season, saw him whiff multiple times ins pace.
CB: Woodi Washington - 55 - I really want to go back and look and see if he was cleaning up messes or out of position THAT often, did have a nice PBU.
CB: C.J. Coldon - 45 - Didn't make any real impact that I saw.
S: Justin Broiles - 20 - I'll fight til the end saying that final big play to Wilson there was NOTHING more he could do but, doesn't change the rest was pretty awful.
S: Billy Bowman - 70 - Great INT but didn't see him much other than that - after tonight, perhaps that's a compliment?
Defensive Average: 58.0 (580)
SPECIAL TEAMS:
K: Zach Schmit - 74 - Man, the missed field goals were just a problem all year and this one may have cost them overtime but he did hit one and was solid on KOs.
P: Michael Turk - 88 - Missed one kick but in general thought he punted quite well for the Sooners.
KR: Billy Bowman - N/A -
PR: Marvin Mims - 93 - Big-time return that gave the Sooners some momentum.
Special Teams Average: 85.0 (255)
Key Reserves:
RB: Gavin Sawchuk - 92 - I admit I wondered if he might be a guy that looked to the portal but after that he'll surely feel like he's part of the plan going forward.
OT: Aaryn Parks - 30 - Man, rough night for a guy that wasn't expecting to be out on the field.
DL: Jeffrey Johnson - 78 - Flashed some big moments early and then kind of faded.
DE: Marcus Stripling - 45 - Kept seeing him and thinking he might make a play but just never really did.
CB: Jaden Davis - 60 - Saw some good things and then a few bad placements.
S: Keyshawn Lawrence - 50 - Saw some badly missed tackles from him though a few more big hits.
Reserves Average: 59.2 (355)
Team Average: 66.1 (1918)
My Overall Grade: 73
Breakdown: I know that people are going to be mad about a game that Oklahoma let slip through their fingers with a badly timed turnover, some more bad penalties, and just general lackluster execution but there's a lot more to this game than just win or lose.
Oklahoma was missing so many of their elite players and facing a 9-3 Florida State team who had so many of theirs on the field and if not for a missed field goal or a fumble, Oklahoma likely wins that game.
If I'd have said before the game that Oklahoma would answer the bell over and over again against a quality team I think a lot of people would have taken it.
It's not perfect, there's a TON to work on but I think it's pretty clear there is buy in and you saw some young guys emerge tonight as potential, maybe probable(?), playmakers going forward.
You also saw the Sooners offense grow into a group that can be quality next year and an offensive line that was a MASH unit drop over 250-yards rushing led almost exclusively by two true freshman backs.
The defense, some more coverage busts though I think SOME of that was on the lack of pressure up front - something I think can be better in 2023.
In short, there's reason for optimism but, at the same time, things are far from perfect.
Scoring Standard:
100-82: Playoff Contender
82-74: Big 12 Title Contender
74-65: Bowl Game Participant
