Please read carefully. I am not excusing Trevor's play and yes, his play did suck. At the end of the game Saturday I was pretty down on Trevor. However, I just watched the game again and it gave me a totally different perspective. There was plenty of blame to go around. Dropped passes, stupid penalties, mistakes etc. Yes, Trevor did throw a couple of hideous passes.
1. Mixon’s drop of the Baker pass in the end-zone at the end of the first half cost us 4 points.
2. Seibert’s knee touching the ground cost us 7 points. (TCU scored on the next play).
3. Seibert missing the field goal cost us 3 points.
4. Mead dropping a pass at 5:22 of the 3rd quarter on a 3rd and 9 cost us a first down. Trevor hit him in the numbers.
5. Mixon and Perine being hobbled.
6. For the most part our defense was spectacular but the offense not being able to move the ball kept us pinned with bad field position starting at or inside our ten yard line for most of the last quarter and a half.
7. Post game emotion I thought Riley should have stayed more with the run when Trevor was not hot with the pass. But really it was not that bad. The run was not all that successful in the 4th.
8. Waning seconds of the 3rd quarter Trevor flips field position by completing a pass from the OU 10 to Sterling to the 50.
9. Drive stalled when Trevor threw a little high to Perine on a slant. Perine still should have caught the ball and it would have been a huge gain potentially putting us in field goal range.
10. Trevor did have a really bad throw at the 9+ minute mark of the 4th quarter. We punted and had TCU at their 14 yard line with 9:13 to play. TCU hits a 86 yard fluke bomb for a TD.
11. So now we are at 8:30 and Orlando Brown gets another holding call. If I recall correctly didn’t Orlando get a holding call in the first half which caused us to kick for 3 instead of going for a TD? Anyway so now we are at 3rd and 14 with 7:75 left to play and Trevor throws an interception at the 45 yard line and at the same time, Darlington is called for holding. The point is that it is not only Trevor sucking at this point. Results in a TCU field goal now 30-23.
12. Now 5:50 on the clock…three straight run plays and we can’t convert. 4th and 1 and we punt with 4:20 on the clock. TCU goes on a long final drive and scores with 52 seconds left on the clock. TCU just manned up on this final drive and willed themselves to a score. We could not stop their running back Green and they caught the jump ball in the end zone.
13. I think Patterson was thinking they had the momentum. We had the home field with Mixon and Perine and they had a better chance of ending it right then with a conversion.
