Red & White game

I was unable to be there at the game. Which defensive players stood out? A bunch was mentioned about offense...
I thought Graham and Bowman were most consistent. Hudson is the new Quentin Griffin. I hope the little guy gets playing time. Grey is the real deal. We have a Sumlin!! Jackson Walk-on Sumlin!! Mario Williams and Caleb Williams will combine on plays to become the Super Willies in a couple of years.

They set it at 21 because Grinch said good defense should be able to hold an offense to three td's or less. The game was only the equivalent of a half. But since the defense was on the field the whole 30 minutes, that was the equivalent of a whole game.

They could only score once the game started by a turnover (3 points) or by scoring a defensive td (6 points) Every possession, the offense could score 7 or 8.

If I'd have been coaching at the end of the game, with a one point margin, I'd have had the teams line up for two , 2-point conversions. If the defense got a stop, they'd have scored the 2 points. That would have given the defense a chance to score.

Thanks I guess. Seems it would have been better if they would have rewarded the Offense more for first downs & the D for possession stops and turnovers or something. The big sideline catch was worth gold

If I'm not mistaken the #1 Offense lined up against the #2 Defense and #2 Offense against thee #1 Defense. The D got points for fourth down stop by rule. They took Defense points off the board at one point so it got a little confusing to the televised scorekeeper.

When I coached kids, I had a system in place that worked pretty good for the age. Offense got a point for a first down. Defense got a point for a 3rd down stop. Two points if they got a 4th down stop. Six points for a turnover for a touchdown. Three for just a turnover. But something like that, with different numbers would be cumbersome keeping track of on the scoreboard. Since it was a one point game, it must have worked pretty good.

I still think LR should have had one or two 2 point conversions to end the game. Once the defense got behind, they really had no way to come from behind,

As Scottsdale said, they took defensive points off the board. At one point, the defense had 33 points on the board. Riley was dictating where the ball was placed for each possession. He was the one who put it on the 5 yard line with the Offense up 3 and time running out. Wouldn't be surprised if the O was instructed to give half effort or if the D knew what play was coming - just to try to get a safety and have a one point final score.
