Wow, what a great series! 2004-2006. Filthiest language you'll ever hear on TV (or in life), but really good, IMO. I recall thinking the language was almost "Shakespearean" initially, but on rewatching don't see a hint of the bard.
Man, the guys (and gals) who populated the Old West were a hell of a lot tougher than anybody you'll meet today. (And many were just as sleazy as today's political class.) Think about traveling thousands of miles on a wagon train through brutal wilderness ... or driving a herd of cattle from Texas to Montana. I don't know a soul today who could do it.
Try it if you haven't seen it for a few years. There's some incredible acting. Can't recall if Ian McShane won a best actor award, but he certainly deserved one as Al Swearengen. And if you want to watch a woman drink and curse as well as any man, catch Robin Weight as Calamity Jane.
